Hi all,

I use the above router as an access point (access Point mode) and just want to cross check if my findings are "correct & stable":

When using the router as an Access Point, it is being connected to the "main network" by the WAN port (blue port). That's ok and it works just fine. The access point gets it's own IP (in the ip range of the main network) and is accessible - thru connectes Wireless devices as well as tru other main-network-clients. So far, so good!

Question:

Is it correct, intended (by TP-Link) and truly stable that the built-in switch (4 yellow ports) are also routet tru the WAN port into the main network and useable as a switch like it would be a "separate physical 5 port switch" connected to the main network?

That would make it a much better access point than "normal access points" that usually do not supply additional ports.

Or are there any known pitfalls, caveats or use-limitations?

Thanks for help, guys!

  @jwka

What you have described is exactly what it does. Here the guide for configuring the rouyter in AP mode (Case 1).

If this was helpful click on the arrow pointing upward to make it blue. If this solves your issue, click the star to make it blue and mark the post as a "Recommended Solution".

  @terziyski

Thanks! I just wanted to cross check especially for the switch operation (in AP-Mode).
