My Deco M9 network is getting choked whenever one or both of my two Tapo P100 (v2, fw 1.2.5) are online. 

Deco network consisting of 3x M9 v1 and 1x M9 v2, all on 1.6.3 firmware.

Network responsiveness is restored as soon as the P100 is taken offline. 100% reproducible issue.

 

Also not able to re-enlist the Tapo P100 through the deco app ("fw not supported" message, consistent with other Deco users' experience with X20 on this forum). Onboarding the unit via Tapo app is working, but immediately invokes the network stability issues.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Can I have more details/description about "Deco M9 network is getting choked", the network speed is quite slow or the internet connection is very unstable?

If we try to separate 2.4 GHz from 5 GHz under the main network, would the 5 GHz behave as usual?

  • Turn off 2.4 GHz on the main network, and enable the Guest network for 2.4GHz only.

Symptoms:

- Slower wifi network speeds, roaming between deco's negatively impacted, slightly slower LAN ethernet speed on PC.

- Unresponsive deco app on phone, showing deco units as offline 

- Web interface continuously showing 100% CPU load on deco's

- Deco units running hot to the touch 

 

All these symptoms are immediately relieved when unplugging the Tapo p100. Factory resetting and then adding the p100 in the Tapo app again: symptoms happen immediately 

 

Did not test the 2.4 and 5 ghz suggestion, but did try and disable 5ghz before adding a fresh p100 again: no resolve.

1. Please refer to this link to set another Deco M9 plus as the main Deco.

How to replace the main Deco with another Deco

2. If possible, please try to connect satellite Deco M9 plus via Ethernet cables to the main Deco M9 Plus to create an Ethernet Backhaul network, instead of the wireless Backhaul.

3. If there is an ISP-provided router in front of the main Deco M9 plus, please try to set Deco M9 into Access Point mode.

 --> done: not solved (all but one deco are connected though wired ethernet backhaul (via TL-SG108e switch). Also tried with the one wireless deco removed from the network --> done: not solved

Hi, Thanks for quiet reply.

Since there is another wireless router, is there any chance that you could use this router to create a dedicated 2.4GHz "IOT" network for the 2*Tapo P100 plugs?

Then try to set a different wireless channel for this dedicated 2.4GHz "IOT" network.

 

I checked with the engineer earlier and it is very likely the Multicast packets from P100 devices have caused 2.4GHz channel congestion, subsequently depleting the CPU memory of Deco M9 Plus. However, Deco M9 Plus doesn't support changing the wireless channels for each Mesh unit and there hasn't been any propriae firmware yet that might help with the current issue.
