Losing connection frequently
Losing connection frequently
Hi,
So while working more from home lately I started to realize that I was losing connection constantly for a couple of seconds at a time. After noticing this it also explained the instability while gaming.
The internet was constantly cutting out after 5-50 minutes so I started documenting the outages to contact my isp. Claimed the problem wasn't on their end so I redid the connectors on my wires, tried another of my decos and still had the same problem.
Tried using an old router and encountered no outages.
Software up to date
Wired connections and wireless lose connections.

@Jsectp Me too. I have various Deco including Outdoor and my Ring Alarm keeps notifying me its on Cellular Backup every 50-60 minutes.
I've rebooted, everything, several times and nothing appeara to correct this issue that only started this morning. I changed nothing, its never done anything like it before.
Frustrating to the point I've spent enough time trying to rectify whatever the problem is and chucking the whole sorry debacle in favour of a different brand.

I can't offer you a fix, but until you decide what to do with X50s you have, here is workaround:
1. Bring back old router, connect it to Internet and turn router WiFi off;
2. Connect Main Deco to that router;
3. Configure Deco mesh to run in Access Point mode: Switching a Deco to Access Point (AP) Mode
4. Turn off Smart DHCP feature under Advanced.

I'm right now testing out setting static IP on the devices I can to see if the problem is with the dhcp, now I'm not in constant meetings anymore so not sure I'll notice it as easily until I try gaming later

If Deco X50 LED switches to red that means Deco lost connection to the Internet or assumed it did. Static (reserved) IPs won't fix that.
If Deco LED does not change during the internet access interruption, what happens is between Deco mesh and devices connected to it. To fix that it is worth trying different things including static IP.

The thing is since the interruption is so short it's not like I'm able to run away and check the light

If you are comfortable working with logs, I can tell you which log line to look for in Main Deco to find if it triggered LED change or lost connection.

When I unplug Ethernet cable from Deco unit these log lines report it:
Fri Apr 19 09:12:17 2024 daemon.info conn-indicator: <32310300> Invoke led: conn[2]
Fri Apr 19 09:12:17 2024 daemon.notice conn-indicator: Connectivity changed: ONLINE(0x0) -> FAP.LOST(0x4)
Here you see log line about triggering LED from green [0] to red [2] and second log line is connection loss.
Plugging Ethernet cable back results in this:
Fri Apr 19 09:12:50 2024 daemon.info conn-indicator: <32310305> Invoke led: conn[0]
Fri Apr 19 09:12:50 2024 daemon.notice conn-indicator: Connectivity changed: FAP.LOST(0x5) -> ONLINE(0x0)
Connection restored and LED is back to green [0].
Check for these two types of log lines. You must switch Log Type to DEBUG to see "Invoke led" log lines.
Deco does not keep logs for long, you may have just an hour or two to check them before they are overwritten. I would suggest to save logs on local disk and view them there.

Turns out my problem was my Ethernet connection between my X50-Outdoor and the indoor Decos.
If I unplug it, no issues. As soon as I plug it in (either to the switch or direct to Deco) constant drop-outs (my Ring alarm reported 6 such dropouts overnight).
As soon as I unplugged the Ethernet cable.....stable.
So what has changed? Up to yesterday, it all worked fine.
