Model: TL-WR841N
Hardware Version: V11
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 4.16 v0001.0 Build 180319 Rel.57291n

Hi all,

I have 4 TPLink routers.

TL-WR841N/TL-WR841N    Clos Melin
Firmware Version:    3.16.9 Build 160325 Rel.62500n
Hardware Version:    WR841N v11 00000000

TL-WR841N        Clos Melin Ext
Firmware Version:0.9.1 4.16 v0001.0 Build 180319 Rel.57291n
Hardware Version:TL-WR841N v14 00000014

TL-WR841N        Clos Melin Back
Firmware Version:0.9.1 4.16 v0001.0 Build 180319 Rel.57291n
Hardware Version:TL-WR841N v14 00000014

TL-WR841N        Blink
Firmware Version:0.9.1 4.19 v0001.0 Build 220816 Rel.42562n
Hardware Version:TL-WR841N v14 00000014

The first is my 'main' router plugged into a Virgin hub in modem mode.

The other two are bridged wirelessly to the main router from downstairs. The main router being upstairs.

The latter is connected by ethernet and is there purely to support my Blink camera.

For the past month, perhaps even longer I keep getting that Clos Melin and Blink have no internet, so if I connect to them, I cannot get on the net, yet if I connect to the others I can get on the net. Yet these are wireslessly bridged to the main router?

Furthermore I can also see the camera clips from the blink camera on my network. To do that they have to come via the Blink servers, even though they are stored locally on a USb stick.

So what is happening here. Obviously they are connected to the internet else I would not be able to type this message, yet as mentioned, if I connect directly to them, I cannot.

TIA

  @WelshGasman

Can you post a network topology diagram on how these are connected together (what operation mode they are - for HW v14) ?

The first thing I would do is to update the FW of all 4 router like this:

1. Main router HW v11 - latest FW release - TL-WR841N(EU)_V11_211209 (here).

2. The other 3 with HW v14 - latest FW release - TL-WR841N(EU)_V14_231119 (here).

How to update FW of the router - here.

After updating the FW of all the router test and check if there's an improvement.

  @terziyski

Thank you for the reply and the links for firmware.

I will try that tomorrow.

FWIW

The Clos Melin is in router mode. It does not actually have a Mode option as the others do. This was my first TP link router and quite old at least compared to the others. Blink is the latest one purchased.

Clos Melin Ext & Back are range extenders

Blink is Access point, though that is connected by ethernet to Clos Melin Router.

OK, now the network topology is clear. And yes, the HW v11 doesn't have operation mode implemented - this was introduced in HW v13.

First update the FW on all devices and test the network behavior - if everything's correct then do nothing more.

Note: I presume your FW region is EU - the links that I've sent are for the EU region. If it's different download these from the appropriate support portal.

If the issue persists:

If the two routers in RE mode DHCP server is set to Auto or On, set it to Off and then test again.

The device in AP mode should use its WAN port to connect to your main router and its DHCP server should be set to Off as well.

Using static IP addresses for the two REs and the AP will make it easier to access their web interfaces via web browser if you need to.

Do the FW updates first and then we'll continue if that's necessary.

How can you tell if a device have an internet access - check its network map:

  @terziyski

Good morning,

Well that was a little scary. :-)

The main router did not reboot. I left it for about 10 minutes and still nothing. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in, then could not connect.

Turns out it had gone back to 192.168.0.1 where I use 192.168.2.1 (Hangover from my Belkin days).

Thinking about it now, I might have inadvertently pressed the reset button. :-(

Anyway got back in and set it up again.

The other three went without any problems, rebooted themselves and presented the login page.

Now able to connect via Clos Melin and also the Blink routers.

I will monitor now for a while, as now and again I was able to get onto the net via them, and then not.

Thank you very much for your help.

BTW where is that page that you mention about network map? I cannot find it on my routers, but I know where to find my WAN address anyway.

I misled you with this network map screenshot - it's from Archer C64 - different WebGUI.

WR841N is with the simpler WebGUI and the equivalent would be its Status page:

But you could use System Tools=>Diagnostic to test internet connectivity:

  @terziyski

Yes, I am aware of those pages, and they were obviously online as the router I was connected to wirelessly is bridged to that main router and the blink is connected by ethernet. That is what was puzzling me.

Thanks again.
