Extending wifi from Ax3000
Hi all.
Simple questions, and probably a couple of simple answers.
BUT.
Despite being reasonably tech savvy, I find the industry terminology unhelpful.
Access Point, Booster, Extender, Repeater etcetc..., and now Mesh.
All very confusing, across the industry and different suppliers.
So lets forget the categories.
I have an Archer AX3000/AX55.
I understand that is Wifi6, and dual band, not tri-band.
And 'OneMesh supported' - (which implies limited Mesh support??)
I have a dead spot at the very end of the house.
I cant reasonably move the AX box at all.
The signal in the dead spot is between -70 and -80dB (WiFiman). Not enough to stream without pauses.
Network and wifi are v.good elsewhere.
Usage at that location is only a single and static device (3rd TV), only occasional, performance not critical.
I have an RE305, not currently in use.
I did connect it to a previous router, but could only manage to set it up with a separate network(SSID).
That was no use, so back in the box.
I dont want to / cannot use an ethernet cable dependent connection.
So,
Can the RE305 be set-up as the same SSID as the house wifi?
How would I do that?
Is that called repeater mode?
I believe that would lose bandwidth (single channel / half duplex). Correct?
Will it work well enough for my needs, even though it is non-Mesh?
Or,
Do I forget the RE305, in which case, what TP product do I need to extend the AX3000 with a Mesh?
It looks like the RE range are either Mesh or non-Mesh.
And tri-band would be redundant (with the AX55).
Do I need an RE device?
It looks (on Amazon) like the AX, AC and RE ranges are all billed as 'range extenders'.
Confusing for consumers...
There is no possibility of an ethernet connected device, either router to extender, or exxtender to TV.
And also,
antennae or no antennae - does it matter for my needs?
Many thanks for some simple guidance on selection.
If anyone has a few minutes to try to explain stuff, that would be even better.
Thanks, J.
