This Article Applied to

Deco X50-5G_V1

Phenomenon Description:

1. Deco X50-5G randomly turned red then the internet stopped. Users might need to restart/reset to temporarily restore the internet connection.

2. Deco X50-5G remained solid white but all devices randomly lost internet connection.

* Some carriers use 5G NSA(It refers to an option of 5G NR deployment that depends on the control plane of an existing 4G LTE network for control functions). So sometimes the Deco LED is white when the Band is one of the 4G bands(such as B1/B3) but the network type is 5G.

Suggestions:

There is similar feedback from various brands of 5G routers on the internet. The causes vary among different SIM carriers, which contributes to the complexity of finding a universal solution. Our engineers are actively exploring different approaches and collaborating with SIM carriers to address this issue.

The following suggestions are consolidated from previous feedback, aimed at enhancing 5G stability.

1. Please make sure the Deco X50-5G is up-to-date.
2. Confirm the 5G SIM card is PIN Free.

*In some cases, once restarting the 5G router, the SIM Card status turns to "PIN Locked". If possible, please contact the SIM carrier to unlock the SIM card permanently.
3. Switch the Carrier from "Auto" to the specific ISP Profile.
For example, on the Deco APP, please Switch the Carrier from "Auto" to "O2".
If there is no preset ISP profile, please try to create your own APN Profile and manually add the APN details of the SIM carrier.

4. Set a daily reboot schedule.

5. If possible, Add external 5G antennas on the 5G router.>>How to install 5G external antennas on Deco

If the 5G router still frequently drops out, you could contact Technical support with the following details to get further assistance:

  • Your location and The SIM carrier.
  • Install the 1.1.7 debug firmware and save the modem log-How to capture the modem log on Deco X50-5G
  • The screenshots of the internet settings/WAN IP addresses before and after the 5G outage.
  • A screenshot of the Cellular details after clicking "Additional information"

@David-TP I have the exact same problem with the BE65-5G router – it keeps turning red and losing the network. The only fix is to set the BE65-5G to "4G only." External antennas are connected, and the signal is excellent.I have the exact same problem with the BE65-5G router – it keeps turning red and losing the network.   @RxNOOB

I'm afraid yesblush. If you can constantly reproduce this issue, it would be highly appreciated if you could help me capture the modem log and send it to support.forum@tp-link.com.

I have experienced this problem for a couple of weeks now. I'm running the latest firmware version that is installable through the app.

Just letting you know the obvious, there are probably thousands of people having this issue but they cant be arsed to look into it.

The downtime is usually 1-5 minutes. We're using X50-5G at a company with 10 users. People are frustrated but we just wait until it works.

Some use their mobile network during downtime. It happens around 10-30 times per day.

I have no idea if it's related but i can see the CPU going to 100% in the small graph, but you can't tell any time frames from that.

I'm a web developer, but we're using mac here so i cant install the logging firmware.

Is there any confirmed workaround? Using 4G only?

  @Glu

Hi, May I know the SIM carrier?

Have you tested with another SIM card?

If the issue starts with 1.2.x, we can try to revert to the official 1.1.5/1.1.7 first:

https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/727392?replyId=1474364

And if you happen to have an old 5G modem, Deco X50-5G can be set as a wireless router.

Or if there is an extra Deco unit, we can also set Deco X50-5G into Bridge mode and use the extra Deco to create a new network and work as the DHCP server.

Using the 4G only is also worth a try and it helps us to narrow down the problem.

Thank you very much and best regards.

Re:Deco X50-5G Randomly Freeze / Internet Unstable
Saturday

I bought Deco X50 5G and 3 Deco X50 mesh. Past month I've tried everything but router keep disconnecting daily and takes 3-5 minutes to reconnect.

I've followed all your instructions.(up to date firmware 1.1.7., daily reboots, manual carrier, 4g only, PIN free, external antenas, excellent signal, I've tried band lock & cell lock) but problem persist and it is happening on daily basis, sometimes up to 10 times per day.

I live in Croatia and have HT (Hrvatski telekom - T-mobile) for provider. When router disconnects internet on my phone (mobile data) keeps working fine on same tower cells router was connected to. I have other Xiaomi router and it works just fine but I want to connect external antennas and bought Deco mesh.

As I can see many people over the world have the same issue and if it is firmware based it's unbeliveable you are not able to fix it.

  @Ayasha

Hi, Thanks for the feedback.

The 5G network instability is closely related to the current cell network and the location of the 5G router.

If you'd like to cooperate with us, the case has been forwarded to the senior engineer for further assistance.

Please refer to the email for more suggestions later.

Best regards.

Re:Deco X50-5G Randomly Freeze / Internet Unstable
Tuesday

@David-TP I have the same issue as well. I've got the X50-5G with 4x M5 also connected to it. My carrier is Vodafone Greece. I have medium to good 5G coverage in the area. I get 300Mbps speeds usually from my cellphone in 5G and some times I get the same numbers when connected to the decos. Unfortunately most of the day I get less than 1Mbps when on WiFi and 1-3 times every day the deco led turns red and I get no Internet coverage for 5-10 minutes. I have turned the network from auto to manuall and selected my carrier, I checked my APN profile, I removed the pin on my SIM card, I changed the channel width for 5GHz WiFi, I deactivated 5GHz and tryed only 2.4GHz, I changed channels, I activated/deactivated QoS, I changed the location of the main Deco(and the other decos) and I downgraded from 5G to 4G with no luck.

I bought a 300€ device + the price of the 4 extra M5 decos and even though there is decent 5G coverage I still can't have a good internet connection wich makes me very disappointed for my purchase and the time I spend setting everything up. I hope this gets fixed soon and I havent thrown my money to the garbage...

I won't go over the trouble to install a different firmware manually just to get log files and send them to you. There should be a function/button to automatically ask permission and send the log files to your support if there is an issue with your product.

Also it would be nice for your customers if you could make a list with compatible antennas for your product for every carrier/country.
