M5 deco unit sending an abnormal amount of DNS requests to nist DNS servers
One of my Deco M5 is sending ~400 DNS requests to time-a at nist gov and time-b at nist gov every 10 minutes. Is that normal? This started two nights ago. I am sure the originating machine is this deco unit and not one of its clients. I have done a factory reset of this misbehaving unit, but after reconnecting it to my mesh it resumes this weird behavior.
I have seen similar problems mentioned in this forum but... 2400 requests per hour :-/
Can I just blacklist these domains in my pi-hole without affecting my deco performance?
Thanks in advance.

For the moment I have applied rate limiting on the pi-hole, which is dealing with the requests flow quite well. What I am not sure in the medium-long term is if Deco will be happy about this. For the moment I do not have any problem in my local network.
Any opinions?

Hi, a new firmware version 1.7.5 has been released for Deco M5 and you could try to install the latest firmware first.
The NTP Pool guidelines ("Implementation specifics" section of http://www.pool.ntp.org/en/vendors.html) suggest once or twice a day to a 4-5 times an hour depending on the application. The rest of the DNS requests might be used for the network online detection. When the detection succeed, the LED on the Deco would keep green otherwise it might turn red.
Thank you very much and best regards.

Thank you for your suggestion, David. Unfortunately 1.7.5 doesn't seem available in my country/release channel yet (at least from the deco app point of view). Is there any setting which I should tweak to get the new firmware?
Kind regards,
Roberto
The same in the web UI

Hi, Deco firmware upgrade is applied in sequence to the correct devices during the release process. So not all users get the new firmware notification in the first place. You could wait for a while and check for firmware upgrades regularly.
Or You could try to manually update the firmware via web UI.
Unable to Update Firmware on the Deco APP
Best regards.

Hi again, David! So quick response, thank you :-)
:
Yes, that's what I thought. It is normal that not everyone gets the updates at the same time :-) Where can I get those .bin files to download manually?
edit: ok, I found it
