Deco X20 - initializing Wifi connection is very slow
Deco X20 - initializing Wifi connection is very slow
I have installed the 3 DECO devices and it is basically working amazing - the installation was the smoothes ever.
The only issue persists with Notebooks (not sure about desktop PC, as we don't have one). Anyway, with Tablet or Mobile Phones we don't have the same behaviour.
Issue:
When my notebook goes to energy save mode (just the screen saver goes on, so I am for example downstairs to make a coffee), I come back to my desk and login to my notebook. At this point I have to wait for around 30 seconds until the internet connection is established. This happens every time.
So also in the morning for the first start, I will have to wait for 30 seconds until the connection is established. This happens with windows and mac, it does not matter.
Anyone an idea?
I already tried to disable the mesh technology for my notebook, but this did not help.
By the way, Firmware is up to date....

Hi Marco, i hope you are doing well, i recomended this method just as discard process, you can connect all decos together using small ethernet patch cords by tryng first method.
Then you can verify if your problem keep active.
•-In my personal experience as a IT Specialist | network tecnician i can say having network sattellites comunicating betwenn them using wireless signal its terrible a idea and it has a terrible performarce.
• Perform a full device reset and test the following:
• Try an ethernet backhaul / hardwire solution, and validate if the problem continue.
• Try testing node by node as a main router.
• Update firmware Nodes.
• Check and update your WLAN NIC driver to latest version.
• ***Try booting on a linux machine [ubuntu iso maybe] and validate if same thing happen, if yes this could be something related to a driver layer****
I have installed many of this kind of kits and always i recomend to my client to hardwire them whire finally ends happy with resuelts, if nothing mentioned above solve your problem maybe some of your units could be defective and shouldbe replaced.
Best Regads,
Joseph.

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.
May I know the model number or WiFi cards of your notebooks?
The latest firmware 1.2.0 of Deco X20_V4 has added ECO mode and have you also enabled ECO mode on the Deco?
By the way, did this issue just start recently, like after the 1.2.0 upgrade?
Wait for your reply and best regards.

Thx for the reply, highly appreciate.
My Lenovo Wifi card is updated on the new drivers and it is this one: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265
No this problem is not related to the last ECO mode update. It was existing already before that. And to your last question, yes in the night I have the ECO mode (I would say medium - wifi is still available but less powerfull) activated, I like that mode...
By the way, this happens for Apple and Windows Notebooks (I have no Tower PC), but at least it happens with all notebooks we have: with two Lenovo and with two Apple MacBooks I have the same issue. It feels like it is related to Notebooks, but I can't identify the root cause

The problem seems to have been localized. after rebooting the main point X50 v1, X20 v4 is connected to the 2.4 band, although the signal quality is excellent, the points are in line of sight. And then the laptop takes a long time to connect. after rebooting the X20 does not always help , but turning it on/off helps and connects to main DECO 2.4/5 ( in Deco APP ... DECO info page ) and the connection is fast.

@xplodzs this sound reasonable.
But I don't get what I should do as workaround.
Since there is no reboot button on DECO, I guess turnin it off you mean just removing the power supply and reattaching it? Or reboot via app if possible (I am not sure).
Your adivce is highly appreciated - maybe you can write a dummy step by step guide? sorry for that

pull the cable out again. Rebooting doesn't help. the second point stands firmly at 2.4 most often remains

Hi, Thanks for the feedback.
How often would Deco X20 connect to the main Deco X50 via 2.4GHz only? Or are you able to constantly reproduce this issue in a short time?
The current firmware of Deco X20-1.2.0 has the same features as Deco X50-1.4.1. Would you mind switching Deco X20-1.2.0 as the main Deco to see whether you would have the same issue on the satellite Deco X50?
How to Set up the Satellite Deco or a new Deco to be the Main Deco
