Deco P9 not utilizing Ethernet connection
Hi,
I have 3 Deco P9 in WiFi Router mode. Issue is Unit 2 only being connect via WiFi despite having cabled powerline and Ethernet connection to router.
***
The setup:
Unit 1 (main, router)
- connected with Ethernet cable to internet provider's modem (has wifi capability but I suppose it is irrelevant as not utilized in P9-setup)
Unit 2
- connected with Ethernet cable to internet provider's modem (and thus it should have direct cabled connection to Unit 1)
Unit 3
- just connected via Powerline
***
The realized connection:
- Unit 2: only WiFi to Unit 1
- Unit 3: WiFi and Powerline to Unit 2
***
why is Unit 2 not using Powerline nor Ethernet?

Please run the following test: unplug Ethernet cable from Unit 2, power off Unit 2, power it back on. Wait for about an hour. After that, check in Deco app if Unit 2 established powerline link to Main Deco.
Based on results of this test I will be able to give you recommendations for Unit 2 connectivity over powerline and Ethernet.

I think you might need to switch Deco P9 into Access Point mode.
When Deco is under wireless router mode, only one unit can be wired to the internet provider's wireless modem router directly.
By the way, Ethernet Backhaul is over Powerline and WiFi Backhaul. You will have either Ethernet Backhaul only, PLC/Wi-Fi, PLC only, or WiFi only
Thank you very much and best regards.

@David-TP thank you!
What are the downsides of going to access point mode? Is mesh still available?

Hi, yes, Mesh will still be available.
As for the difference, you could refer to What’s the difference between Access Point mode and Router mode on the Deco?
Thank you very much and best regards.

@David-TP I tried access point mode but no difference, with or without Ethernet cable I get only WiFi, no Powerline, no Ethernet.

Hi, Thanks for the update.
Since satellite units works the same, if you switch the location of Unit 2 and 3, are you able to get unit 2 on Powerline Backhaul?
(Please still set them in Access Point mode and Keep the Ethernet cable unplugged.)
Wait for your reply and best regards.

@David-TP no luck, but interestingly they keep the connections as in the original locations. One is still stuck with WiFi only.
I tried plugging it in very close to the main unit, but nothing changed.
update;
I can get Ethernet to work on the on that had no issues with Powerline:
