Model: Archer AX80
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.04

This is for the AX80 model with the internal antennas.

I can't get this router to maintain throughput on 5Ghz 802.11ax 80MHz channel with a 2021 Macbook Pro.

On a Gigabit internet service, the Mac would get 700-800 Mbps throughput on the fast.com and speedtest.net tests, but after 5-10 minutes, this would degrade to about 300Mbps. The only way to get the original speed back is to reboot the router.

Anyone else seeing this problem?

@aykuttasdelen Yep - it's very disappointing. Just return it. It's not fit for purpose.

Hi, thank you very much for posting on TP-Link Community.

1. Please connect a computer to the router via Ethernet cable to see if the speed is normal and stable, if not, please test your ISP modem speed as well

2. If the wired connection speed to the router is normal and stable, the issue only happens with the 5GHz WiFi, please try to change 5G Channel to see if it makes any difference

3. Please check the wireless link rate between your MAC computer and the router when the speed is nornal and also when the speed drops:

It's fine with cable, it's also fine with a Netgear RAX50 which is also a Wifi6 router with similar specs

2. If the wired connection speed to the router is normal and stable, the issue only happens with the 5GHz WiFi, please try to change 5G Channel to see if it makes any difference

Have tried manual and auto settings on the 5GHz range. Same result

3. Please check the wireless link rate between your MAC computer and the router when the speed is nornal and also when the speed drops.

It is stable at 1200 mbps - this is sitting right in front of the router.

As I said, the only way to get the expected throughput is to reboot the router after 5-10 mintues when the throughput drops dramatically to 300-400mbps from 700-800mbps.

  @au-user

I have the same problem, when the router restarts it gives maximum speeds, after a while the speed drops senselessly and does not increase. I don't have this problem with the device provided by the ISP. I get a connection from the ISP's device to Ax80 and broadcast wi-fi. The result is that after 5-10 minutes the speed drops again. There is no way to solve it in any way.

It also blocks some streaming connections randomly.

I'm guessing it's because the ridiculous paid security program included in it isn't working properly. Even without a free or paid subscription, it somehow affects connections.
