Model: Archer A6
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.13.1 Build 230609 Rel.31746n(5553)

Hi, I need some help with my Archer A6.

I have an internet connection contracted with a fiber optic internet service provider at a speed of 1000mbps.

However, the provided modem is poor and the Wi-Fi doesn't reach my office (pratically next door). That's why I bought an Archer A6 router and used a CAT6 cable to bring the internet to it (its sitting right next to my computers), but the internet on the 5GHz Wi-Fi is reaching a maximum of 250mbps. Even the graphic at a speed test looks like it has no fluctuations and is stuck at 250...

When I connect the same cable to one of my computers directly, it can achieve speeds that exceeds 500mbps, which indicates that the router is limiting the speed, correct?

Is there a solution to it?

Thanks, anyway

@endless_despair , let's see if this is correct

while the tp link router gives a connection of 883 mbps (443 mbps up/down, and it shows in), my computer uses a tp-link T2U AC600 adapter, which provides half this speed 443 total (or around 200mbps up/down, right?)

in my phone it shows a higher speed (~350, 400 mbps), and the direct ethernet cable shows something around 600mbps

at the end of the day, I should upgrade my wireless adapter to the T3U AC1200, which would give me the same connection speed as the router

my wireless adapter is old, but was never the bottleneck until now...

Hi @juliomelo91

Firstly, we need to understand that Wi-Fi works in half duplex mode, which means that half of the bandwidth is being used for receiving data while the other is being used for transmitting data. Plus, we have to remember about interference of the Wi-Fi signal, which can also cause problems with speed and overall Wi-Fi quality.

You can use the following formula to calculate the approximate maximum internet speed that you can get via Wi-Fi:

(a — link speed or maximum bandwidth; b — approximate maximum internet speed; 20% is the approximate value of the speed we lose due to signal interference)

According to Archer A6 specifications, maximum bandwidth at 5GHz is 867 Mbps, which is approximately up to 400 Mbps internet speed in a perfect circumstances.

So, back to the main question, could you please tell whether this issue occurs on all devices or only on some specific devices?

What's the link speed (you can see it connection info) while connecting to the 5GHz network?

Have you tried doing the speed test while connecting to the router via Ethernet cable? What were the results?

You can also try to follow this FAQ on TP-Link website.

Hi @juliomelo91

Yep, you're right. Unfortunately, Archer T2U adapter is a bottleneck at this point.

According to the speed test results via Ethernet cable and speed test on your phone, it seems like there is no issues with Archer A6 limiting the speed.
