Model: Deco S7
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have recently purchased the twin pack of TP Link Deco S1900

The master deco is connected to my Router via Ethernet and is working and the secondary deco is connected to the main deco as expected.

However I purchased these to extend my current WIFI coverage of my wireless network when connecting to my routers SSID.

I was expecting my existing WiFi ssid to be a strong signal but it still appears to be the same minimal signal

Should I be connecting my devices to the new Deco WiFi network as I was under the impression that the deco was to extend my existing WiFi ssid and signal throughout the house

hope this makes sense

  @Manchesterbazza

Hi, Welcome to the community.

Deco extends the original router coverage by creating a new wireless network so you might need to connect to the new Deco Wi-Fi network.

Or you could turn off the Wi-Fi on the original router, then change the Wi-Fi SSID of Deco to the original Wi-Fi network name, and also put Deco into Access point mode to avoid the double routers/NATs issue.

What’s the difference between Access Point mode and Router mode on the Deco?

How to set up Deco to work in Access Point mode

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

I have set the Deco up in AP mode and created its own WiFi SSID and will slowly move things across to it before I can disable the SSID on my router

thanks again
