> Only version V1 shipped originally without the OneMesh feature, but it was added later with a firmware update. That is the reason why some of the older Q&A answers from before 2021-04-09 state that the Archer C80 doesn't support OneMesh.
Yes. I thought it to be so too. I just wanted to hear it. Thanks for confirming.
The issue here is I sent an e-mail with the exact message as in my first post to tp-link official customer care. This was their response.
I have clearly mentioned in my email that I have looked into https://www.tp-link.com/in/onemesh/product-list/ and still it is not clear to me. But, still they pointed me to the same link again. I was expecting the reply that you have sent from them. But, I guess I was expecting too much from them.
Also, Tp-Link could have updated their product pages with "OneMesh supported" and "OneMesh supported via firmware upgrade" for products for which OneMesh support was added later via firmware update, for products that do not have a OneMesh logo in the product box image in product page. Updating product image need more effort.
Issue 2:
This is not the first instance of bad tech support from tp-link. I have already a tp-link C6 V3.20 router. But when I checked https://www.tp-link.com/in/onemesh/product-list/ it listed Archer C6 V4.
I thought since V4 was a hardware revision OneMesh required hardware support and my router didn't support it. Later when I went into my router admin page, it listed a "OneMesh" menu in the sidebar. Just to confirm I called tp-link customer care. They said since the OneMesh support page ( https://www.tp-link.com/in/onemesh/product-list/ ) listed only C6 V4 and not my C6 V3.20, my router doesn't support OneMesh.
Then I noticed the OneMesh logo in top right in Archer C6 V3.20 ( https://www.tp-link.com/in/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-c6/v3.20/ ) product page as below.
Then I digged my storage room for my original Archer C6 v3.20 package box and saw the OneMesh logo was there. I didn't know much about OneMesh when I purchased it, as my dad purchased it. So, I missed it totally.
Issue 3:
Same with Range Extender RE450. It is listed as OneMesh supported in https://www.tp-link.com/in/onemesh/product-list/. So, I decided to purchase it after checking all the other REs for 1 hour. Then since in Amazon.in product page ( which is where the Buy button in product page redirects to ) there is no mention of OneMesh, I called customer care. A girl picked up and said that RE450 doesn't support OneMesh. I told her that RE450 V4 is listed as supported in OneMesh product page, but she was very confident and said that as per their internal records no versions of RE450 support OneMesh, and listed a subset of REs listed in the OneMesh support page as the only products that support OneMesh.
I am in the product page specific to my country. So, it is not like I am reading some international product page. Then why there is confusing and conflicting information.
I called customer care 2 times and they provide incorrect information. I then wrote an email thinking things will be different and they provide useless information.
I am a computer engineer. Still has it to be this confusing for purchasing a simple product ?
Hope someone from TpLink reads it and does something about it.
Thanks for reading.
