hi,

I am having a problem with the handling of DNS on TP-Link Archer VR600v.

The modem/router is connected to a standard DLS connection. It is using the DNS 195.185.185.195. When a client (computer) connects, it is automatically using the local dns 127.0.0.53, meaning the router is handling the DNS requests.

But when the client uses the local DNS, the connection is very sluggish. If I configure the client with DNS given by my provider (195.185.185.195 that is, what my provider is setting on the router), the internet connection is smooth.

I assume this is a problem of the TP-Link router.

so two question:

1. how can I fix this issue?

2. if the issue cannot be solved so easily, can the router be configured in a way, that the offered DNS is not 127.0.0.53 but the one given by the provider? (right now it is the 195.185.185.195, but it might be different in the future)

I could not find any setting to change this.

best.

  @buscon

Hi,

Is the local DNS 127.0.0.53 a customized DNS server, like Raspberry Pi-Hole, or is the LAN IP of VR600v?

You could refer to the following picture to change the IPV4 DNS server to see whether it helped or not:

  • Change the primary DNS server to 195.185.185.195, secondary to 8.8.8.8
