Model: TL-WA850RE
Hardware Version: V7
Firmware Version: 1.0.10 Build 211117 Rel.31538n (6985)

Hi,

I have 2 TP-LINK extenders.

1. TL-WA854RE v1.0 00000000

  + Firmware Version:  3.14.8 Build 140827 Rel.34191n

2. TL-WA850RE 7.0
  + Firmware Version:  1.0.10 Build 211117 Rel.31538n (6985)

If i check settings on my older TL-WA854RE i can connect to 2.4 WiFi as a repeater and send out signal with 40MHz bandwidth.

Extender connects at 300Mbit, because it is using 40MHz from and to router.

If i check connection TL-WA850RE it can only transmit and use 20MHz in extender mode, limiting the speed of connection.
In access point mode via LAN port TL-WA850RE can do 40MHz, but only if i use it as access point with LAN port and not as an WiFi extender.

I have also confirmed this with WiFi analiser, it will always stay at 20MHz if TL-WA850RE is in wifi extender mode, in LAN mode ( access point ) user can set it to 40MHz.
Older model TL-WA854RE can use 40MHz in WiFi extender mode, even user can select it, on TL-WA850RE  user has no option to do so,

Will there be a firmware fix for this issue ?

Left: TL-WA854RE v1.0
Right: TL-WA850RE 7.0 MISSING 40MHz option

Both extenders are very good, as you can do AP, wifi bridge, client bridge .. etc..

Thanks.

  @Spc.

Hi, welcome to the community.

So far, there hasn't been a plan to support the customizing of wireless channels and channel width under range extender mode.

They are supposed to follow the wireless advanced settings on the main router. Have you checked whether the 2.4ghz on the main router is working on 40mhz?

Best regards.

  @David-TP Yes.

Main router is set to 40MHz, not 20/40 or 20MHz but forced to 40MHz.
You can also see this in log that TL-WA854RE is connected at 40MHz, but TL-WA850RE only does 20MHz.

TL-WA854RE using HT40SGI FULL 300Mbit/s:

TL-WA850RE using HT20SGI HALF 144Mbit/s, does not follow router settings and 40MHz can't be set:

Router:

Both of them have excellent signal quality as they are very close to the main router.

Main router is Linksys E4200 running dd-wrt open source firmware.

Broadcom chipset  MiMo 3x3.

Router is connected to main switch which has SFP module and is connected to my ISP via fiber.

Fiber speed is 1000Mbit down and 300Mbit up.

However if i connect my TL-WA850RE via LAN port i can set channel and 40MHz.
40MHz then works, but only in access point mode.

I also have a question regarding Extender TP-LINK TP-RE200 AC750 750Mbps Dual Band.
5GHz channels seems to be limited to only DFS free zone.

This is channels: 36,40,44,48 and then it ends ?

Is that true ?

  @Spc.

Thanks for the update.

For the 40mhz, I do not have other suggestions and would like to forward your case to the senior engineers for further assistance.

If your RE200 is on the EU version, the 5ghz channels are only limited to band 1(36/40/44/48).

Best regards.

  @David-TP thanks for your info.

Yes please forward my case to your engineers, so that we can get 40MHz in wireless mode on TL-WA850RE.

Regarding RE200:
RE200 hasn't got enough processing power to do scan for DFS radar signals so it is limited to 36-48 channels then ?
