Archer TX50E V2 slow speeds, unusable currently
Archer TX50E V2 slow speeds, unusable currently
Hey,
I recently bought this for my pc and installed according to the video. Installed the previous driver to this one
Archer TX50E(UN)_V1_22.180_230206
I'm in a small house and the pc is in a room, 1 room away from the router. On wifi i'm getting download speeds of max 16Mbps, whereas on wired connection i'm on 300
First i thought it was the range. I moved my pc into the same room as the router, in clear sight of it and there i can get around 300. Just to note i have set it up correctly, with the antennas pointing upwards at 11 and 1 o clock repectively.
So again i though it was a range issue. I bought one of you TP link wifi extenders
https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/range-extender/re205/
Placed on the edge of the room, so to bridge the gap. And it made no difference.
So i checked again just trying the original wifi back in the office (the room 1 room away from the router) but from both my android phone and macbook air. And both of those on that wifi are getting around 280MBps. So thats making me think that its not range at all but an issue with the TX50E since all my other wifi devices are getting full speeds.
I should add the bluetooth also seems to have trouble connecting. It can see my UE boom 3 speaker but can't connect to it
I've tried updating the driver to this one
https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/range-extender/re205/
The bluetooth driver installed first fine, but the wifi one failed saying A newer product version is already installed (which is the previous one :) haha)
I'm a computer programmer so know my way around PC's but i'm useless with networking stuff. Where do i begin to start fixing this issue?
Thanks

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.
The main point of a range extender is not to improve the speed. It could improve signal strength and maintain a stable connection. For your case, we can leave the RE205 aside.
May I know the model number of your main router?
Could you please help me check the link speed separately on the PC when it is 16Mbps max and about 300m/s:
How to check the associated/link speed on a wireless client
As for the Bluetooth part, would there be any error message when it failed to connect the UE boom 3 speaker?
if it could not pair with a UE boom 3 speaker, how about another Bluetooth device, like your smartphone? Will the PC pair with your smartphone?
Best Regards.

@David-TP Hi David, sorry for the very late reply, has been a busy week at work. Thank you so much for the info on the range extender, i too now agree.
My router is an orbi RBR350
As for checking the speed from your instructions its says on the PC its 130mbps. Just running a speed test after this from speedtest.net and i get 14Mbps download and 2.5Mbps upload.
Checking on my macbook air, it says the tx rate is 216 Mbps (always keeps switching between this and 144Mbps), and doing the same test i get 204 Mbps download and 57mbps upload
As for the bluetooth, the boom 3 does say its paired but when i click connect it says 'That didn't work. Make sure your Bluetooth device is still discoverable' (it is).
The phone seems to pair ok, i've never paired a phone with it before so i don't know how to test it.
i just tried my sony headphones and it seems to work fine so maybe its just a boom 3 issue - to be honest i'm fine with that, the headphones are more useful anyway so maybe this resolved and working fine : )
Its just the wifi speed now it seems.
Thankyou

@David-TP I have just bought the product and noticed that even though I select V2 and download the driver described as TX50E(UN)_V2_22.180_230206_Win10_Win11 it will download Archer TX3000E(UN)_V1_22.180_230206. Is this a known issue?

Thanks for the notification.
It might be confusing but it is not the problem. This driver is shared by Archer TX3000E/Archer TX50E/Archer TXE75E/Archer TX55E/Archer TXE72E V1/V2.
For the wireless speed issue with TX50E, I see Orbi RBR350 is AX1800((600m/s for 2.4ghz+ 1200Mbps for 5ghz) and TX50E is Ax3000(574 Mbps for2.4 GHz and 2402 Mbps for 5 GHz ). So I think when it is one room away from RBR350, a link speed of 130m/s is far less than expected.
By the way, TX50E is connected to 5ghz of Rbr350, right? If yes, I think it should be at least 433m/s
Could you please help me check the following details on the TX50e:
1. How much wireless signal(dbm) did it get from the router?---You could download a WiFi analyzer like Ubiquiti WiFiman to test the current wireless signal.
2. When it is near the main router and could get 300m/s, how about its current link speed?
Wait for your reply.
best regards.

@David-TP thanks!
So in answer to your questions
Yes, TX50E is connected to 5ghz of Rbr350.
I downloaded Wifi Analyser for windows and its getting -87db
I need to relocate my pc to try again in the other room. Just at work right now but will try it later and reply to this thread then. Thanks!

Thanks for the update.
I will wait for your new test result at a different location.
As for the current location,
How far from the PC to the router since the signal strength is barely to hold a wireless connection?
Would the smartphone and MacBook Air get a weak signal as well on the same location?
And as for the 5ghz bandwidth, is your main router set to 20mhz? Are you able to change it on the NetGear Rbr350 to 80mhz maybe?
Thank you very much.
Best regards.

@richn1981 Hey thanks david,
just a mini update, from my smartphone i can see i get -59 dbm in that same room (the room is approx 4 meters from the router), when i move the phone right ontop of the router i get about -32 dbm. I haven't found a good mac wifi analyser yet to try the macbook air. Wifi man didn't seem to be able to do the signal strength, i'll look into this.
And i'll test the pc in the same room tomorrow.
in terms of the signal strength icon, the macbook air is getting full bars, the smartphone about 3/4 and the pc as shown above is just tiny.
Having a quick look at the setup app for the router, it doesn't seem to let me change the speed - i'm sure its possible, i'll check the manual tomorrow and try this.
Thanks

@David-TP Hey,
so i've just pulled the pc into the front room so its right next to the modem, heres the wifi analysis of that test
Also just doing a speed test and am getting 196Mbps down and 30Mbps up. So its still about 100Mbps a second short of what my plan should be (300Mbps)

@David-TP and just to add, have been trying to find a way in settings to change the bandwidth but so far haven't been able to find a setting in the advanced setup. Closest thing is something about not allowing 20/40 mhz to coexist at the same time, enabling and disabling this made no difference sadly.
