Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I have a TP Link Archer C7 on the first floor with both 2.4GHz and 5 GHz signals, the latter is for computers, and the former is for home devices that don't support 5GHz.

I have a smart plug on the ground floor which picks up sometimes the wifi signal (it can only use 2.4Ghz), yet it is often disconnected. The Archer C7 router is located near the staircase going downstairs yet this doesn't seem to be enough.

I read the 2.4GHz signal use internal antennas so these cannot be extended. I don't want to add a wifi extender.

Would changing my router to a better model such as the C80, or any other ?

Is there a way to improve my C7 signal with another hack ? Would plugging a USB antenna such as this one do the job ? Teekit Antenne Wi-Fi longue portée 2500 m sans fil pour routeur extérieur

Thanks

Use this guide about placing your router for a optimal performance. This antenna won't do the job for you - it was meant to be connected to a PC.
