lan to range etender fro M$
Hi all have a M$ allready connected by lan to laptop...thats fine...but have a levono tabley thats being obscured by a wardrobe an it keeps dropping connection...Sooo i thought ad a range extender to a socket near the tablet...Connected the RE205 to wifi etc...but thats only showing a download speed testing wifi to mt phone as 52meg...i have a 910 meg full fiber and even items not connected by lan should connect at at least 500meg...not happening....BUT how do i lan the RE205 to nearest M$ plugging lan in doesnt make a difference...am i missing somthing ? thanks

The RE205 is a single channel 5ghz device, therefore the fastest it can possibly connect is 433mbps theoretical. Thats around 150 in real mbps speed tests, add to that its repeating the signal so half again.. 80-100 doesnt sound un-surprising.
You would be better replacing this with another M5 Deco to get better speeds. If you have 1gb fibre then the M4 will be saturated long before you fill the pipe, it would be worth considering upgrading to the Deco X range if you want closer to the 1gb over WiFi

@Philbert HI IAN thanks for replying,...MY RE205 is dual band though im not concerned which band it uses...i only setup wifi as thought i had to...all i want is to lan to it from my Deco M4 so my tablet might possibly get a better speed connection...as im using the tablet for a wifi camera its suffering from dropouts and terrible lag...id be happy with 200 ish but its either incapable of that or im doing somthing wrong

Hi, RE205 is indeed a dual-band range extender and I also agree with Philbert that you might have the wrong extender and RE205 is not a good choice for Deco M4.
The maximum link speed on Deco M4 is 867m/s for 5ghz and 300 for 2.4ghz while for RE205, It is 433m/s for 5ghz and 300m/s for 2.4ghz. so the RE205 already cut half of the communication speed between Deco and itself.
And comparing the following network topologies:
Deco M4---wireless---RE205(hop1)----wireless---Lenovo tablet(hop2)
Deco M4---wireless---Tablet
Lenovo tablet is able to get a stronger wireless signal from RE205 but the speed is no better than the second since due to the working pattern and protocol/regulation of Wi-Fi technology, the more wireless hops, the slower the speed would be.
You could consider adding one more Deco M4 into the mesh for the tablet. Or like Philbert said, considering the total internet bandwidth is 1G, you could update the main Deco to be WiFi 6, like Deco X50/X55, and keep Deco M4 as the satellite Mesh units around the house.
Thank you very much.

@nigel129 Hi, sorry for the inconvenience. You can send the link via private message to me. I copied the words here and somehow it can be posted. I guess it does not include the link yet.
Besides range extenders, you could also have a look at the powerline adapters, such as
TL-PA7010kit | wired powerline adapter | Ethernet port up to 1000m/s |
TL-WPA4220kit | wireless powerline adapter | Ethernet port up to 100m/s |
For the following layout:
Nearest Deco M4---<cable>---850RE---<wifi>----Lenovo PC, Powerline adapter would be better than a range extender.
Or actually, what you tend to connect is like since 850RE is the dual working mode(wired Access point-layout1 & wireless range extender---layout2):
Nearest Deco M4---<wifi>---850RE---<cable>----Lenovo PC
Thank you very much.
