Hello,

I am in the process of changing my home network devices and I am in need of a WiFi router that will act as an AP and Range Extender.

You can consider it as:

Internet <--> CPE/Primary WiFi Router <--Ethernet--> Archer <-->WiFi & Ethernet devices

I am totally confused though. I understand that C80 is a WiFi 5 router, and the 2 AX routers are WiFi6 ones, but apart from that what are their main differences?

I have this page: https://www.tp-link.com/en/compare/?typeId=9&productIds=45482%2C52194%2C35242 from which I understand:

  • C80/A8 is a single core CPU (possibly the same)
  • AX5x are dual core CPUs (unknown speed)
  • AX55 has 512MB RAM, no idea about the others!
  • C80/A8 clearly support MU-MIMO, no idea about the AX

So, it looks like the AX55 is the better router, however, it's not clear if it's worth the extra money compared to 53 or C80/A8.

Can someone please help on this?
For example if someone can tell me the amount of RAM that is available or the 53 and/or their CPU speeds/cores it would be of great help.

  @PeterTselios

If the price is the main factor of choice and I don't need a USB port, I would bet on AX53.

If you don't need an Wi-Fi 6 standard then C80 would suffice.

Keep in mind that all these support AP mode (Case 1), but only C80 has WDS feature (Range Extender) available as well.

Unfortunatelly TP-LInk dosn't publish detailed tech specs for their devices.

  @terziyski

Although in terms of % the price difference seems high, in reallity AX53 and AX55 are only 10 euros apart, which could or could not be reasonable. That's why I would like to see the actual specs of 53. 55 have them in the product page (at least the main things)!

The C80 and A8 look like almost identical devices, so, I cannot understand their difference.

The AP will be reponsible for Netflix, Youtube etc streaming as well as the connection point for my mobile devices. And I believe the important element (at least in my eyes) is the amount of RAM. So, if 53 (for example) has less than 384MB RAM, then I will simply get the 55 :)

If C80 has 256MB RAM or more, I will get the C80

If A8 has 256MB RAM or more, I will get the cheaper between this and C80.
