Model: Deco X20-4G
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hello,

As a feature request, is it possible to get a notification on Deco App or even set the unit to send an SMS when the WAN connection has been detected as failed and the 3G/4G failover kicks in?

I have set a data limit, but I would like to know when the WAN connection fails so I can log a fault with my ISP.

Regards,

Tom

There is one method you can use called Uptime Robot where you can ping your Ethernet WAN IP wtih DNS Service and if the network goes down it will notify you with App or email. Also Uptime Robot maintains the log so you can share same with your ISP. Just check the WAN IP address provided by your ISP is reachable directly from outside network with pinging it from outside network.

@Tommo53 This doesn't work as most internet facing routers/modems don't respond to pings. I have BT and Virgin Media and while they have external IPs, neither responds to pings. Given the X20-4G has a SIM, it doesn't seem to be a big leap to get an SMS...?

@Emanur I really think this could bring lot to the table. I would also recommend setting automated messages if we can send SMS to those numbers with specific keybinds. like if we send SWITCH in SMS to that number it can switch from 4G to Ethernet and vise versa. It can be one of the safe methods also for remote management.
