TL-SX105 10g 5 way switch - died?
TL-SX105 10g 5 way switch - died?

Model: TL-SX105
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1

Unmanaged switch worked fine for 7 months in mixed 10G and 1G network. Runs of UPS. Overnight the network devices emailed me 'lost connection' messages and this morning, there is no network activity showing on the switch.

Only power LED is lit.

Tried rebooting. the network port lights flash during self test and then remain off.

I have tried contacting live chat, but the engineer does not know his product and asks silly questions. I can't seem to get an RMA number or procedure for the UK out of him.

1. This looks like a hardware failure. Has anyone else that same experience?

2. Whats the RMA procedure?  I have registered the switch with TP-Link, but the REPLACEMENT tab on 'my account' says 'no RMA case yet'. How do I initiate a return?

TIA

I've recently bought the new TL-SX105 switch and noticed that it takes roughly 30 seconds to boot after plugging it in. Since I have it on a power strip this leads to the rather annoying situation that my PC boots within 15 seconds and then has to wait another 15 seconds for the network to become available. Have there ever been Firmware updates for unmanaged switches from TP-Link?

@CarolBrusteredm Yes, the boot time is long. This has been mentioned before, I believe, but I leave mine on 24/7.

My original SX105 was V1.0 firmware. I have since had it replaced under warranty by the supplier and received a V 2.0 firmware unit.

I do not know of a method to update firmware on this unmanaged switch.

  @Tony_Scott

Same issue here, switch seems to have largely died. Power light on but ports 1-4 inc not working and no light. The last "10Gb" port works but obvs useless. Tried reboot to no avail. Hoping the local support team will sort :)

@CB00 Mine was 'bricked'. I obtained a replacement with Ver 2.0 software from the retailer. (Excellent service Ballicom!)  UK support from TP-Link were not able to help "as they had no stock of replacements!?!!" (really?)
The switch appears to have no method of update or diagnosis at all.  The ports simply failed to recognise any device connected at any network speed.

Good luck to your IT support people!

Hi,

Just thought I would ad mine to the list - 5 months in a 10g cabinet with QNAP 10G unmanaged switches... DEAD after 5 months out of the blue. V1 firmware. Attempting RMA now...

@TABORSYSTEMS  Good luck.  When I contacted TP-Link, they said they had  no replacement units. So much for customer service!

I obtained my replacement from the retailer, Ballicom, who provided a no-quibbles replacement (with Ver 2 firmware)..

So far, so good. Fingers crossed.

After about 8 months of owning this switch, ports started to die one by one, until only port 5 was operational at all. Starting RMA today

@dvs8 There must be a market for 1 port switches somewhere.................

My RMA'd replacement is placed in the coolest location available. Maybe they overheat?

Maybe there is a 5 to 8 months obsolescence built-in? Maybe a new marketing trend to counter 'Right to Repair'?
