Gidday,

Recently bought a three pack DECOR X20 AX1800 WIFI6. At the moment they are working really well but initially my attempt to set it up the way I wanted failed...so here I am asking all you experts because I'm a real computer numpty.

I'm in Australia and the place I'm renting has FTTP (to the premises). The NBN box is in the garage and when the house was built they put in a 10 plug panel but only four are live and they go to the main bedroom, lounge room, kitchen and living room.

When I first moved in I purchased a TP-LINK AX1800 (WIFI6) router and connected that directly to the NBN MODEM and left it sitting next to the NBN 'box' in the garage. I then ran cables from the TP-LINK router to the Lounge Room (thats where the TV is) and living room...this is where it gets funky.

I put an old Nighthawk (EX7000) ac1900 in the living room and ran the ethernet form the wall point to that extender (EX7000), I then ran an ethernet cable from the ethernet port of the EX7000 to a 'ethernet over power' adapater and up to my sons room at the back of the house to run his tv and laptop.

The other day when I got the DECOR X20 units home I left the AX1800 router in the garage and the ethernet through to the living room connected. I pulled out the first X20 mesh unit, downloaded the decor installation app to my phone. I was told to connect the first extender to the router (AX1800, not the NBN modem) via ethernet while it was sitting in the garage and after some fiddling it worked and connected. I then disconnected the X20 extender and took it into the living room, disconnected the EX7000 and plugged the DECOR X20 units ethernet cord into the wall plug thinking it would pick up the signal form the AX1800 in the garage. Immedidately it came up with a red light and after 'resetting it' and using the app (where it found the extender) it still wouldnt connect.

After a fair bit of mucking around the only way it would work was so leave it (DECOR X20) connected to the AX1800 router in the garage, I then went through the house and connected the other two DECOR X20 units without a problem. I dont want to leave the DECOR X20 in the garage connected to the the AX1800 router but it seems to be the only way I can use the mesh DECOR units effectively. The signal is strong and the units work well although I that one in the garage.

I thought I could run an ethernet from the AX1800 router in the garage, to a plug in the panel (connect through to the living room) and then connect the DECOR X20's from there but it doesn't seem to want to work.

Is there something I'm missing.

Thanks in advance.

  @Kiwighost

Hi, Except Deco X20(AX1800), we also have Archer AX23/AX20(AX1800) and in case there is any mis-understanding here, is the first AX1800 router Archer AX20 or AX23?

When you add Deco X20 3-pack into the home network system, the main unit needs to be wired to either the NBN box or the main AX1800 router, it could not be connected wirelessly. And The following layout is your original setup and after having Deco X20 units, you tend to put the main X20 to where the EX7000 is and connect it via Ethernet cable, right?

I see EX7000 has both wireless range extender and access point mode, did it use to work under access point mode?

And could you please find a wired laptop to test the wall point Ethernet port(which is used to connect to EX7000) and check the PC is able to have internet service from the wall Ethernet port?
