Why can't I buy a single powerline adapter (AV1000 or equivalent)?
I have had a powerline 'starter kit' for a while.

Now I want to add a second gigabit adapter to extend the network.
However, only the kits, with two units, seem to be available.

(Not just on this website, but everywhere I look).
Can I buy a single powerline adapter/extender? If not, I don't understand why not?
Thanks.

Hello @TP-Neb
Most powerline kit sold as a kit not singly, probably because kit is comparably cheaper and sells better.
Also it is recommend to use powerline kit of the same speed for best performance: How can I select the powerline device?
You could have both units in the new kit as extenders, rather than discard the old unit that connected to the router.
Take TL-WPA7510 kit as an example :
TL-WPA7510:wireless powerline unit can work as wireless powerline extender
TL-PA7010:wired powerline unit also work as wired extender unit.
Hope this helps.

Bump!
The name 'Starter Pack' implies that once you have this, you can then add single adapters to expand the network.
But it seems like you have to buy another full-priced starter pack instead, and simply discard the unit which plugs into the router?
Can anyone clarify?
Thanks.

It's not ideal. For my apartment it is a bit wasteful to have to purchase a fourth, unused unit.
Single units should really be available for half the cost of the start packs.
But thank you for your suggestions. I will purchase the TP-Link TL-WPA7510 KIT.

Adding a single powerline unit sounds common, while that's basically decided by local sales. As far as I know there is a model AV600 Wi-Fi extender WPA4220 sold singly for modes areas, this varies in different regions or areas. In your case AV1000 kit would be a better choice.
