Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.1.4 Build 20211022 rel.58866

The firmware on the router is:

1.1.4 Build 20211022 rel.58866

The newest firmware on tp-link's download page (https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-c7/#Firmware) has a new release number:

c7v5-up-ver1-1-4-P1[20211022-rel59103]_2021-10-22_16.38.32

When you attempt to upgrade this firmware you get an "Invalid file type" error.  This is true of EVERY other firmware I've tried as well.

What is this?  TP-link used to be really easy to upgrade, now for some reason they are putting a bunch of checks in place that make it harder for the end user.

@ChristiaanL

I would recommend you dont try and update the firmware, there is an issue with the latest firmware for Archer C7 V5.

I recommend having a read of this first.

  @ChristiaanL I found your thread because I thought I had the same problem. My problem was that I had an A7 and thought it was a C7 and was trying to flash C7 firmware on it. Similar machines, but different firmwares. Firmware intended for A7 updated just fine.
