Hi

Not sure which of these to buy. We have a 5 bed home over three floors (attic conversion) and a garden office currently covered by four BT Whole home devices (c. 4 year old). The main device is wired to the router and rest connect wirelessly.

BT keeps crapping out and need resetting and BT app not good. So looking at upgrading and wanted to ask for advice on which model would give best performance. Have kids so parent controls a must.

Thanks

@Hazzap123

If parental controls are a must, I would not recommend Deco WiFi mesh. Modern smartphones and tablets come with "MAC address randomization" enabled, Google it, but in an essence it means each time such smartphone reconnects to WiFi it could appear as a new device.

You can turn MAC address randomization off on smartphone/tablet, but unless your kids are very young they'll figure how to turn it back on. What you need is WiFi mesh that either has whitelist or default parental controls profile that is assigned to any new device joining the WiFi mesh and can be set to be very restrictive.

Currently, Deco mesh has neither, and it does not appear TP-Link puts high priority on addressing that issue with parental controls in Deco.

  @Hazzap123 The X50 has a POE option, so saves your power sockets if you use a POE switch and connect several centrally.. Personally I prefer hardwire backhaul
