Hi !

I am not yet a TP-LInk user but I would be grateful for anyone's views on the following.  I am probably going to terminate my current ISP service due to unacceptable download speeds in this rural area.  I get good 4G signal and am thinking about buying a 4G modem/router but will almost certainly need a Mesh/Extender system. I found that a single modem/router would not get a signal round my house but the Netgear Orbi Mesh setup with 3 units solved the problem.

I have read good reviews of the Archer MR600 4G router ( there seems to be a V1 and V2 version of this product - is the V2 just an updated model ?).  I have also come across the Deco X20-4G which could be an all-in-one 4G Mesh system.  What I am not clear about is whether I would need the Archer and attach the Deco X20 satellite units or just buy the Deco X20.

Are there any other 4G Mesh options which I have not found in my searches or is my choice between these two models ?

Many Thanks,

Stylax

@Stylax

Hi, if Deco X20-4G is available in the local market, it would be the best choice.

After that, you could consider Archer MR600 V2(V2 is an updated model that is compatible with OneMesh)+ OneMesh extenders.

@TP-Link Thank you for this reply.  Can I clarify two points:

1. If the Deco X20-4G is available to buy in the UK (not sure about this yet) then are you saying this unit alone would be adequate to get a signal around a property that has currently had to have a Mesh system with landline broadband because a single modem/router could not do the job ?  Or would this X20-4G be able to link to additional units (Mesh or otherwise) to boost signal around my house ?

2. When you say that the alternative could be the MR600 V2 and that links with OneMesh extenders, I understand that extenders are not the same technology as Mesh.  I believe the TP-Link website itself states that they work in different ways.  To avoid buying an inappropriate product would you please tell me which model numbers can be linked to this MR600 or indeed the X20-4G.

I have bought kit before now which has turned out to be wrong so I need to nail this enquiry down to get it right.  Thanks for any further assistance.

@Stylax

Hi, thank you very much for getting back to me.

There are three different Mesh systems under TP-Link.

The first is the Deco Mesh system, like Deco X20-4G here.

Since Deco X20-4G is a wireless 4G modem router, a single unit is enough to connect to the 4G broadband provider.

If the wireless coverage is not good enough, you could add more Mesh nodes, like Deco X20/M5/M4.

Can different Deco models work together?

 The second would be OneMesh routers and extenders, which is the second option provided: Archer MR600 V2+RE605X/TL-WPA8631P KIT for example.

or other 4G onemesh routers +extenders combinations listed here:

https://www.tp-link.com/en/onemesh/product-list/

For the difference between Deco Mesh and Onemesh, you could refer to this link:

TP-Link OneMesh™ VS Deco Mesh: What's the Difference?

 The third would be the business Mesh system—EAP mesh if you are interested, we can discuss it later.

@TP-Link Hello

Thank you for the details in your last email which are just what I wanted.  However, I want to consider the following and need to know if it would work please.

My 4G signal is erratic and for most of the day fluctuates between 1 and 6 Mbps which compares with my landline broadband of about 2.5 to 4.5Mbps.  This may seem crazy but I want to consider replacing my Netgear Mesh setup with a TP-Link system.  I am hoping the Deco X20 units ( of which I anticipate needing a hub plus 3 further satellites) would work with either 4G broadband via the X20-4G unit or a suitable landline connected modem.  My preference at this stage is not to go the 4G route but if this Mesh setup would work with either a 4G or a non 4G modem/router then I would have the option to switch out the landline modem and go 4G at some future time if necessary.  Would it work and which modem/modems would be suitable as non 4G to connect to the Deco X20 system ?  Hope that all makes some sense.

Regards,

Stylax
