Is WDS connection possible between C50 AC1200 and TL WR740N?

I'm having troubles establishing WDS connection between Archer C50 (main router with Internet connection) and WR740N. I've followed many tutorials including this one with no luck and I'm starting to doubt it is possible. Here is my last hope.
Both routers are in same network with different IP addresses and both are visible when I connect the Archer (main) router WiFi. Laptop and any device connected to the Archer gets Internet access and works fine.
When I connect the WR740N's WiFi the attached devices have no IP addresses (DHCP turned off as it should be) and I can't ping the Archer from the WR740N Diagnostic tool. When WR740N DHCP is enabled all the attached devices are visible but still no ping to the Archer and no Internet connection.
Details on both routers:
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 0.2 v0093.0 Build 200608 Rel.66307n(4555)
Hardware Version: Archer C50 v4 00000002
Firmware Version: 3.12.4 Build 100910 Rel.57694n
Hardware Version: WR740N v1/v2 00000000
If these two fellow routers are not compatible for WDS connection I'd be grateful for recommendations on another model (home use, cheap or mid priced) that can do the job. Thanks.
Thank you for your effort. I already tried this but gave it a secnod try step-by-step and word for word. No success unfortunately. Here are some details for both networks:
- on the WR740N wireless
- I can't explain how the laptop got an IP address when no other device got one. Initially I thought there was some lease time but then turned off/on the Wireless adapter, restarted the router but the IP didn't change.
- laptop's network adapter DHCP and gateway settings got the router's default IP address instead of the explicitly pointed Archer's one in the WR740N settings (if it is accepted at all. I saw this in another tutorial but no idea how and if it works)
- I can ping the Archer from the WR740N but can't ping it from the laptop
- on the Archer's side
- the WR740N is visible and control panel accessible
- can't see any device behind (devices still not addressed)
Some more details on the routers are in the pictures but I guess it's just "WDS may be incompatible between different products (even occasionally from the same vendor) since the IEEE 802.11-1999 standard does not define how to construct any such implementations or how stations interact to arrange for exchanging frames of this format.-----From Wikipedia"
