Hey everyone!

We got some feedback from our community users requesting for Range Extender to support OneMesh/EasyMesh when works as an Access Point.

Currently,  OneMesh/EasyMesh is not supported when the extender is set to Access Point Mode. However it is planned to support EasyMesh over Ethernet Backhaul under Range Extender mode.

It will start with RE315_V1 and gradually be added to other EasyMesh-supported extenders.

RE315 Supports EasyMesh Over Ethernet Backhaul

Note:

1. An extender needs to support EasyMesh (over Wi-Fi) first, then supports EasyMesh over Ethernet Backhaul.

2. Ethernet Backhaul only works when both your main router and satellite extender support EasyMesh over Ethernet Backhaul.

Other Mesh Options:

Option 1:  Deco mesh system supports Ethernet backhaul under both Wireless Router and Access Point modes.

Hi, ive just purchased a Re550 to use one mesh with my VR2100, I had again assumed it would support an ethernet backhaul. So disappointed it doesn't, I would absolutely support this if its possible.

Hi @Solla-topee

I have the following products from TP-Link expecting them to have ethernet backhaul as I have ethernet wiring around the house, particularly as my router is in a utility cupboard surrounded by metal:

AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Router
Hardware: Archer AX20 v1.0
Firmware: 1.3.1 Build 20210524 rel.40909(4555)
Country: UK

AX1800 Wi-Fi Range Extender
Hardware: RE605X v1.0
Firmware: 1.0.4 Build 20210507 Rel. 151958
Country: UK

I would request these are enabled to have OneMesh ethernet backhaul.

@Solla-topee

I will definitely support the A.P. with Ethernet Backhaul solution!!

Running:

TP-LINK AX73 with latest firmware V1_210717

2x RE505X(EU) V1 with the latest firmware V1_210511

On the verge of buying an RE605X(EU) V1 (or is it V2 these days?)

Due to the Onemesh implementation, the RE's are now setup as Extenders (NOT preferred!)

Preferred solution needed: The RE's setup as A.P.'s with Ethernet Backhaul as at my home the CAT6 STP LAN-cables are already in place to connect to the AX73.

Please implement as soon as possible.

My guess is that a lot of customers are going to be very happy.

Greetings from the Netherlands.

Thank you and have a great day!

@Solla-topee

Hi, I bought the RE605X thinking that it would support OneMesh Ethernet Backhaul. I would really like to get that feature.

I don't also quite understand how I could use the powerline connection with my

Archer AX6000 router and RE605X, do I need additional powerline adapters for it?

Thanks!

I mean do I need to buy powerline adapter to the router end and the RE605X works without that adapter or what?

Hello@miero

Thank you for asking, Powerline and Range Extenders are two separated network extension solutions, we recommend use either Powerline extender or Range extender in your house, not both. As RE currently does not support OneMesh when it works as an AP, we list  onemesh-compatible powerline extender if you want to wish to replace RE using a different kind of network extension products.  (powerline kit requires need to be paired under same house or same powerline)

@Solla-topee

Hi,

Ok thanks, that makes sense. I already have a 4 unit TP-link WiFi5 mesh in addition to the WiFi6 Archer AX6000 router and RE605X, so I probably just wait for new products. RE605X seem a bit old now compared to the latest TP-link WiFi6 mesh devices.

Hi,

I would have an additional question, can I connect my existing Deco M5 units and Deco M9 Plus unit as satellites and use a new Deco X90 as the main unit using Powerline Backhaul with all of them and expect the setup to work well together?

This documents kind of suggest so, but do WIFi5 and WiFi6 really work well together while using Powerline Backhaul?:

I have AX20(EU) v1 + RE505X(EU) v1 and really miss the ethernet backhaul, as my house floors are separated with reinforced concrete. For now I disconnected the RE505X, as it made connection quality worse. Please implement the backhaul, I do plan to sell the router and the extender otherwise...

Hello @YuriGavshin

Ethernet connection still works when set RE in AP mode but it's not a seamless mesh yet, thank you for your idea, I will pass along feedback here to our team regular for evaluation.

How to setup Access Point Mode of Range Extender?
