Region : UnitedKingdom

Model : TL-WDR3600

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : 3.13.31 Build 130320 Rel.55761n

ISP : Plusnet

My WDR3600 which has worked pretty flawlessly (for the most part) for about 8 months has suddenly started playing up.

I use the WDR3600 with the BT fibre router connected to Plusnet and usually achieve 36Mbps/8Mbps on speed tests.

The problem:

- Browsing suddenly slows down. I can be browsing with no issues, then suddenly a page will take 10-20 seconds to load, and may even time out completely. Shortly afterwards, eveverything is back to normal - I could refresh the page which wouldn't load at all and it will load at full speed
- If I run a "ping www.google.co.uk /t", I can watch the pings sit comfortably at 16/17ms for a few minutes, then spike to 300-2000ms for a short period of time (5-30 seconds), then back to normal
- We use a VOIP phone system at the house and I've noticed randomly scrambled voices, which I think would be explained by a sudden connection interruption
- This happens on wireless and wired, but appears to be worse on wireless
- I've isolated the router as the problem by plugging the laptop directly into my BT fibre modem, and did not experience the same issue

The fact that this has only recently started happening has made me wonder if the router is overheating, as it's currently very hot in England, whereas ever since I've owned the router it's never been particularly hot.

I've tried:

- Rebooted the router countless times
- Upgraded to latest firmware (today)
- Multiple devices all experience the same thing (e.g iPad watching Sky Go player will suddenly close with a "poor connection quality" error)
- Changing the wireless channel to various settings
- Changing to a/b/g only / 20 Mhz / 40 Mhz / Auto

Here's a sample ping output, with no other activity happening on the network :

This is wireless, but I can re-create the same thing on wired, pretty much.

Interestingly, if I do nothing at all (i.e just leave the laptop pinging away), it stays quite stable. As soon as I start using the connection (YouTube etc), it appears to sometimes act as a trigger to cause the connection interruption.

Any help appreciated!

Disable the WMM or Hardware NAT function on the router?
