Too Confused about Firmware Upgrade

Hardware Version : V4
Firmware Version : 3.12.11 Build 110914 Rel. 59688n
ISP : PTCL
I bought TP-Link TL-WR741ND Hardware version 4.21 with an FCC ID: TE7WR741NDV4.
It has some bugs and reportedly latest firmware update resolves them.
Other detail is as following:
My Router

Sticker on Box-Pack
Version detail in my Router's Web Interface

As you can see the firmware came with router is pretty old. I want to update it to the latest firmware to date i.e. published date 5-Feb-2013 (as you can see in the following image).
Is it safe to update my router with this latest firmware? :confused:
I have heard horrifying stories bricking the router even with official firmware upgrades. Look at this: (Although it is in Portuguese language but got it translated with google)

Unfortunately TP-Link doesn't exist officially in my poor country so a very tough procedure to claim warranty and being a poor student I can't afford going through that hassle :(
