Hi Gimmy, I had a similar problem with my W9980. To solve this I disabled UPNP - however this could cause you problems if you use on-line XBOX/PS etc.

my model is W8970 wifi adsl router v1 and running the latest indian firmware.
the problem is it freezes randomly say 6-10 hrs when on low load or idle but wen downloading huge files or using bittorrent it freezes more often say 20-30mins. when it is freezed web management page cannot be accessed and the only solution is restart it manually. i already mailed them but no useful response so talked to the toll free helpline then they said send the router back and they will send a new router via mail.
first i thought it is a heating issue so brought a cheap laptop cooler and put it below the router but it also wont help. now back to aged netgear N150 router which is working fine.

btw on indian website the tplink W8970 has another pic and specs( 1 usb port and 2 antenna ). mine router is visibly looks like W8970B and has 2 usb ports and 3 antenna but it is running W8970 V1 firmware out of the box and the sticker says W8970 V1.2

Here disabling the UPnP fixed the freezes caused by Torrents.

It does not fix... :(
Only in bridge mode the router can stand Torrents... :(
