Hi there, I just bought a new tplink router 300mbps router from ebay to replace the old one that my phone company gave me when I got broadband at my house. So I ran the cd and hooked up the computer w/ the cable and turned everything on, but can't get internet through the router. All my computers are detecting the strong wireless signal from the router but there is not internet access, the yellow ! mark in the signal bars. I plug my old one back it and it works fine so there is signal coming in through the dsl cable. One thing maybe that could be a problem is that my DSL comes in through a regular phone jack and is the standard kind of phone line cable...it appears the blue input port on the back of my tplink router is for a larger wan cable or w/ever you call those...(bear with me please I'm not very tech savy)...I use this regular phone cable for my old router that the phone company gave me and it works fine. It seems to lock into the blue port on the back of the new tplink router but no internet is coming through the router? Do I maybe need some other cable or adaptor? Any ideas I'd really like to use this new router I bought and see if my internet performance is better at my house. Thank you so much for your time and consideration I tried to call the tech support line but it said no one was available and to try again another time. I work nights so this forum is more convienent if anyone has any advice to help me I would be very appreciative. THanks. -Damian

What is your DSL modem? Make configuration by the internet browser http://192.168.1.1 and port WAN like Dynamic IP.

How do I do that? I don't think I have a DSL modem...the old setup was a phone line straight into the wireless eircom router that transmitted my wifi signal throughout my house. Just a standard phone cable from the wall to the old router...it is this type in this picture https://www.google.ie/search?q=eircom+router+wifi&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=q5VKUfnYFqrR7Aayr4HYDg&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=985&bih=619#imgrc=42DUbOrG5xo70M%3A%3B5NBPsYv9dmZX-M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fi.imgur.com%252FoeTKN.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.boards.ie%252Fvbulletin%252Fshowthread.php%253Fp%253D81308729%3B343%3B294. I'm not sure what I need to get my new tp link modem to work. Thanks in advance for any help!

I think the TP-LINK is not the same as your old one. It seems your old router is an ADSL modem router while the TP-LINK can only function as a router. If you only have a telephone cable coming into the house, I'm afraid you need a modem to work with the TL-WR841N...

Oh really well that was a waste of 45 euros then...is there anyway to add a modem to that system and use this new router, or should i just get an ADSL modem/router then. I didn't realize ther was a difference in the two I should have done more research. Anyway, do you reckon I can add a modem and use this one or not? Thanks again for your time.

Hi, Damian, I think it should be OK to add a modem in your system to make it work together with the TP-LINK router. If your ISP is using PPPoE as the connection type, you only need a bridge modem and then dial up the PPPoE connection on the router itself.
