I got my extender yesterday

Then the firmware update and then I started using it .

Everything is fine but it is heating as well so is this normal with extenders. Specially RE305

Range extender will generate heat when in use like other electronic devices.

You could put RE in a cool and well-ventilated environment. It is better to RE in a open area rather than an enclosed space like a cabinet. 

Make sure it works under the Operating Temperature: 0°C~40°C (32°F~104°F), as this working temperatures has been tested in TP-Link lab and approved to be safe.

@Solla-topee what  if am using it in a place which is open but has no cooling appliance.

If the room temperature is among 0°C~40°C (32°F~104°F), it should be fine for range extender.
