Model: Archer AX6000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.3 Build 20210511 rel.76452(4555)

Hello,

I have an issue with my Archer AX6000

Here is the setup I have at home:

  • Archer AX6000 configured as a wifi access point, 160MHz channel on 5GHz frequency are setup
  • Archer AX6000 connected to a 2.5Gbps switch. Connection between the switch and archer is effectively negotiated at 2.5Gbps
  • Server with a 2.5Gbps network adapter connected to the same 2.5Gbps switch. Connection between them is effectively negotiated at 2.5Gbps
  • I have 2 computers, laptop A and laptop B, both of them with an Intel AX200 Wifi 6 2x2 160MHz capable network adapter
  • Both of them connect wirelessly to the archer at 2.4Gbps which effectively means 160MHz channel wide, 2x2 MIMO usage
  • MU-MIMO is enabled on the Archer AX6000
  • No other clients connected to the acess point

The issue I have: MU-MIMO seems to not be properly working

Test protocol:

  1. Test network bandwidth between laptop A and the server
  2. Test network bandwidth between laptop B and the server
  3. Simultaneously test between laptop A and the server, as well as laptop B and the server

Results:

  1. I observe a bandwidth around 1.4Gbps, which is OK
  2. I observe a bandwidth around 1.4Gbps, which is OK
  3. I observe roughly 250Mbps on each laptop, which is not OK

I was expecting to have MU-MIMO to kicks-in with:

  • Laptop A using 160MHz 2*2 with the archer
  • Laptop B using also 160 MHz 2*2

And to max out the 2.5Gbps connection to my server because archer is advertised as being a 4x4 4800Mbps capable.

I also noticed that activating MU-MIMO makes no differences on the test results which makes me wonder MU-MIMO is effectevely working on the ARCHER AX6000.

So my questions are:

  • Is MU-MIMO implementation effectively working ?
  • What are the conditions to have MU-MIMO to kick-in ?
  • Under witch conditions can 4800Mbps be achieved on the Archer 5Ghz wifi network ? I would expect to at least achieve 50% of that in practical usage and thus max out my 2.5Gbps links.

Regards,

Toni.

@ToniRodrigues

The tests you have performed seem quite sufficient, but I cannot tell you now whether this is normal, as I didn't perform the tests. We would like to invite you to discuss this with the support engineers, I think they can explain this clearly.

@ToniRodrigues

This is not a problem MIMO.

(although there are also questions about the work of MIMO, but it is not easy to conduct its tests in pre-home conditions)

Try to disable OFDMA!

@Kevin_Z Thank you for your feed-back. I'm indeed in discussions with the support engineers.

I will keep the forum posted on the outcome.

Toni.
