Since reinstalling my extender my download speeds have significantly reduced.
How do I uninstall the unit?
Simply powering it down does not have any effect

Range extender should not affect speed from router when it is being unplugged. It is recommended to contact router support and see if the WiFi band (s) are still enabled and working, explain how do you install the range extender to router support and they will help to check related settings, hope this could help ~
