Model: RE450
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.0.2

Hi all,

I am running Archer C6 and RE450. RE450 is connected to C6 over WIFI. There are both 2.4GHz and 5 GHz WIFI networks.

The source networks (C6 obviously) are running in channel 1 and 36, respectively. All the (4, in total) networks have the same SSID and the same security features.

Now, all the information about running multiple WIFIs with the same SSID suggest to run them on separate channels, to prevent interference. It seems reasonable. However, RE450 does not allow to pick the channel, so it broadcasts its networks on channels 1 and 36 as well, just like the channels of the source networks (from C6). It is not a OneMesh device too.

Is there an fw update planned? How to improve that? Logic suggests that the WIFI networks from the extender should broadcast on a far, unoccupied channel, rather than cause interference with the source router.

Has anybody succeeded in changing the broadcast channel on RE450 in any way?

Best regards,

MiLykie

@MiLykie  Hello,

When tp-link RE works in range extender mode, and it always uses the same channel as router as extender has to repeat the signal on the same channel as the router and could not be changed, that is also the way how most extenders works as far as what I could tell.  Only when RE works in AP mode * wired to router via Ethernet cable, the channel could be changed.

It is recommended to put RE in the halfway between router and Wi-Fi dead zone, at the extension area router signal is normally weak and would not cause much interference for RE. To let RE will perform better users could try to find a proper location for RE, here is a related  thread:
