Model: Archer AX20
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.1 Build 20210524 rel.40909(4555)

As in the title - Build-in VPN Client fails to connect with the network when either:

- I try to use public IP with the VPN provider

or

- I generate and load the config file for OpenVPN 2.4

The only way to use OVPN is to generate config file for OpenVPN 2.3 without the public IP address

It's worth noting, that when using OpenVPN 2.3 i'm experiencing download speed to be throttled down to 20mbps - although I'm not sure whether this is an issue with the router, or with my VPN provider. I have 600mb cable connection that normally easily reaches its maximum throughput in speedtest.net

This seems to be a buggy implementation in the router firmware - It works perfectly when using OVPN by connecting directly from my PC

Also - I have a feature request: Add the Wireguard protocol to the VPN client. AFAIK it's included in the mainstream linux kernel, and adding this functionality should be as easy as compiling the kernel and exposing it to the user interface

@Mcgravier

Just a quick note, may I know what kind of VPN Client software you were using on the local PC? How about the download speed?

For OpenVPN on my PC im using system connection manager (Im running a Manjaro Linux). AFAIK it relies on two packages: https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/openvpn/

for the core client functionality

and

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/networkmanager-openvpn/

(system plugin that integrates OpenVPN with the user interface)

With that setup I'm getting reliably a 300-400mbps
