Hi Solla -topee!

We didn't choose the best time, NewYears Eve, to try to install a R305 extender. No one answering the tp link support line in Manila.

Basically we just can't ever get a non blinking signal light wherever we plug in the extender, even just1 ft away from the Converge router! Our target is a slow area downstairs in the kitchen. Halfway would mean somewhere outside the bedroom where the router is, on the landing, near the stairs. There is a wall between the foot of the stairs and the kitchen. It doesn't work there, but the fact that it also doesn't seem to work very close to the router makes we wonder if we have missed doing something else to make it all work?

We followed your advice on having the external antenna pointed up.

Hello @Gadjetphobe

It does not matter if the Signal Led  is blinking or stay solid unless User Guide has a  specific meaning the Led blinking.  Kindly refer to RE305 UG for Led stauts of RE.

While it is not common that if Signal or Wi-Fi Led goes off periodically (no internet).  Can you help describe which led is blinking on RE, what is the hardware version of your RE. If you have any trouble using the extender like no Internet, you could start a new thread here and we will try to help look into that further, thank you.

Oh, so good you can be bothered to reply at this time! The user guide uses the word "solid" when talking about the power LED. Then again it says when you relocate "..wait 2 mins until the signal LED turns solid blue...If it doesn't relocate..." The signal LED, next to the power LED is the one blinking. Even a few inches away from the router it's always blinking. So it seems to be necessary on the instructions leaflet. It's RE305 Mesh Wi. Fi extender AC 1200 dual band That's all there is on the box.. We haven't tested it yet at the times when the WiFi goes slow downstairs, usual mornings, so if you're saying the blinking light is not a problem, it's maybe a language translation issue on the leaflet?, then we will try it out. It's just that the words "solid blue" are in bold on the leaflet, so we thought we're doing something wrong.

Hello@Gadjetphobe

RE305 Signal Led:  Blinking means WPS connection is in progress, did anyone press the WPS button or enabled WPS for RE?

Usually the Signal Led should be Solid. While RE305 if the Signal Led is Blue/ Red, extender is still connected to Wi-Fi router and should have Internet.

Hello to you Solla! Anywhere we put the extender we have to enable the WPS to get a blinking signal LED light flashing blue/no colour. This includes about 1 ft away from the router! Surely we should be able to get a solid blue light very near to the router? So always after a few mins the signal light stops blinking and there is no light at all. So actually no testing can be done. Maybe not to be usable in our house? But the diagram on the box, the sales rep at Octagon store all say otherwise. What to do? Php 2,600 and for a lot less we were offered a cable based solution. Unsightly but might have worked.

Hello@Gadjetphobe

If RE305 Signal LED flashes for a min or two then goes OFF, that means the WPS set-up failed.  Please factory reset RE and then refer to guide below to set up your RE through web page or tether APP.

RESET: With the extender powered on, use a pin to press the RESET button until most LEDs flash once.

How to configure Range Extender via Tether APP

How to configure my range extender via web GUI to extend an existing wireless network's coverage (new logo)?

If you met trouble installing the RE, please also refer to thread here for troubleshooting:

Has connected to TP-Link extender but no internet, what can I do?

Can you start a new thread here for further question with RE installation

We finally got all blue lights solid! We reset then tried to connect again through Tether. Didn't work. Then tried through WPS and it did connect. You recommended it yesterday but I didn't completely understand what you do then. So I have positioned it as far as I can towards the slow Wifi area keeping all blue lights solid and we are now waiting for the user there to report on it. Thanks for all your help yesterday.
