Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.1.2

Hey everyone. I'm at my wits end with this router. I got it from my local ISP when they activated my service.

From day 1 I had an issue where I would randomly lose connection throughout the day for about 1 minute, then it would pick back up about two or three minutes later. This happened about 5 or 6 times per day. Since I work from home, it's incredibly annoying to get kicked off of whatever I'm doing for a few minutes every hour.

ISP sent out a tech, he stayed for over an hour and didn't fix the issue. I took matters into my own hands. Used the automatic firmware upgrade feature which did not work. Then had to manually get the EU drivers and install myself (why is TP Link not able to figure this out??). Second time it worked, but did not fix my original issue.

Finally, I fixed the issue by disabling IPV6. No more random disconnects for about two months.

Fast forward to yesterday. We had a power outage. Now the router is back to it's old ways. Losing connection intermittently multiple times per day.

My first thought was that the power outage caused a factory reset but nope, I logged back in to the router settings and IPV6 is still disabled. Firmware still at the newest version.

I have attached the system logs as I have no clue how to decipher them and I'm not sure why the date is wrong. Maybe that can help.

Someone please help me with this, I'm at a total loss here. I don't know enough to diagnose this myself and I need to get my work done. I can't believe I'm having router problems like this after not having them with multiple other cheap routers in the past. Terrible.

I was actually able to fix this issue by doing the following:

Turned off Print Server

Turned off OneMesh

Lastly, switched IPV6 on, then off again. It was showing as disabled already, but I thought maybe the power outage caused a glitch so I wanted to try it. Since this was my original problem, it was worth a try I guess.

Not sure which one of those actually fixed the issue, but I haven't had any dropped connections for over 24 hours.

Also, I did factory reset the router before when I was originally trying to fix the issue the first time. I was forced to reset it after the auto-update in the GUI gave me the wrong firmware (US version but I needed EU). This time though, no factory reset was necessary. Just changing the settings as I did above seems to have fixed the issue.

Thank you for your prompt replies.

@ace543

Is this the whole system log when the router connects back to the internet? May I know who is your ISP?

Please share with us the whole system log when the internet connects and disconnects, you may monitor this process longer, then save the log. Please pay attention to the LED status on the router, ensure there is no router restart during the whole process.

BTW, it seems the router time is not correct, it shows 2021-01-25, please check the time settings and ensure the router connects to the NTP server fine. You can also try to change the Internet DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, then confirm again.

@Kevin_Z

Yes this is the whole system log after the internet connection drops and I'm able to log back in. There's only two total pages of logs all on the same date.

I looked in the router time settings and everything is set up correctly. It's set to automatically get the time from the internet and displays the correct time. The correct timezone is also selected. I clicked "obtain" for the NTP server and it was successful. Not sure why the logs show the wrong date.

Perhaps the absence of newer logs means that the router is restarting on it's own and clearing the log?

My router is in a hard to access space mounted high up on a 12 ft wall, but I was able to see my modem lights last time it disconnected. The flickering light that indicates connection with the router goes off completely for about one minute whenever the connection drops, then picks back up when the router connects again.

More information about my ISP, it's CMC Telecom in Vietnam. I live in Saigon. I've had other ISP's before with rock solid connections. My neighbor also never has a drop in connection.

If it matters the connection type is PPPoE

@ace543  Thank you. Have you ever reset the router to factory defaults either by pressing and holding the reset button until the LEDs flash off then on or click the factory defaults on the router web GUI? We hope you could try to reset the router one more time from its web GUI, then reconfigure it from scratch to check again if the connectivity is stable.

If the issue persists, we will have a specialist to look into this.
