DNS hijacking threat after iOS update to 14.5?
DNS hijacking threat after iOS update to 14.5?
Hello, after yesterday's iOS update to 14.5, Wifi Assistant in Deco App V2.7.4 (Deco M4 device) is constantly showing "Not Secured - Risk of DNS Hijacking" status. I haven't changed my Wifi settings (WPA2-PSK security is enabled) and prior to 14.5 iOS update this problem didn't occur. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks for your help.

Hi, you could have a try the suggestions on this link and help me get the APP system log:
(Note: Please make sure that the log was saved after you installed the debug APP!)

Thank you very much and we are checking with the senior engineers now.
At the same time, could you please help run a simple test:
Since the Wi-Fi assistant is not only working for the current Deco's network, it could also be used to test other wireless networks;
If you do not mind, you could connect to another wireless network and check whether there is a DNS hijack or not;
At the same time, please go to Deco APP>Overview>setting on the top left>help>contact us>suggestions and send us the APP log;
Thank you.

@TP-Link Thanks. Will check another Wifi. In the meantime, check my support request, I've sent it just now.

@TP-Link I've checked my network security via Deco Wifi Assistant on older iPhone model, there was no DNS hijacking warning. Therefore I think this issue is related to new iOS version 14.5. Guess your network guys should think about releasing a Deco app update.

Hi, The Wi-Fi assistant features on the Deco APP would keep being optimized;
At the same time, I suppose the new IOS 14.5 might also change some security settings;
By the way, if you check another network via Wi-Fi assistant, would there still be DNS hijacking?
And after checking with the senior engineers, the self-built up LAN DNS server, and some software like HiiBot:circle would cause the DNS hijacking;
Have you installed any of them?
Thank you very much.

@TP-Link thanks for the reply. Answers to your questions:
*check another network via Wi-Fi assistant: yes, the DNS hijacking status is present on another wifi network, too
*the self-built up LAN DNS server, and some software like HiiBot:circle: none of the mentioned is installed/used on my network

@D.verkaik breaking news: the 14.5 had major security flaws, they have rolled out 14.5.1 iOS update. So the culprit is known.
