First of all, the thread concerns the RE505X Range Extender, not an "Adapter", but I could not find the RE505X in the drop-down menu.

So, I can successfully connect the RE505X to the Archer AX11000 (firmware 1.1.1 Build 20200716 rel.84595(4555)) in range extender mode, to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz (1 or 2), however then no devices will connect to the 5GHz signal distributed by the RE505X - 2.4GHz, no problem.

I have tried connecting the RE505X in a number of different configurations of the AX11000:

1) 2.4GHz band set to "Auto" on all settings and 5GHz (1 or 2) set to "Auto" on all settings.

2) 2.4GHz band set to "Auto" on all settings and 5GHz (1 or 2) set manually.

3) 2.4GHz band set manually and 5GHz (1 or 2) set to "Auto" on all settings.

The problem remains, however - no devices have a problem with connecting to 2.4GHz, but none will connect to 5GHz.

To make it all the merrier, I have two RE505X Range Extenders and two Archer AX11000 routers, and the problem persists no matter what combination of hardware I use.

Also, when the RE505X is connected, the Archer AX11000's client list goes crazy, showing a number of connected clients and suddenly none, then some, and then again none.

Is the Archer AX11000 simply incompatible with the RE505X, or is there some tweak which I have to make?

Thank you for your detailed post. There shouldn't be any compatibility problem between these 2 devices. 

 

May I have your network map, or network topology? For example: Router  AX11100---AP  )))((( RE505X. 

If possible,  please simply your network,  and only power on 1 router and 1 extender. 

 

Please disable smart connect on AX11000 router wireless settings and set up a different SSID for 5Ghz -1 for example" 5G test "

Also change router's 5Ghz channel to 36/40/44/48 on 5Ghz1 and make sure router's 5Ghz1 have Internet first.

 

Later set up RE505X and connect to that " 5G test" wifi and  set up a different SSID for RE505x's 5Ghz, for example " 5G test Ext" 

 

Please check Internet of RE505X's 5Ghz. 

 

If still the same issue, may I have know the Leds status on RE505x? What is the Error message if 5Ghz does not work? 

Please share us a photo of router's 5Ghz wireless settings, thank you.

When I add "EXT" to the range extender's 5GHz network, I can connect easily, no problem.

But this is not what I want - I need the RE505X to have the same SSID as the router. And, according to this article (https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/160871), this should be possible to achieve.

Please accept my apologies for not making this clear in my original post.

Also, I would like to add that I have never used SmartConnect, as I prefer to set everything up manually.

And my topology is as simple as it gets - one AX11000 router and one RE505X range extender.

Thank you for your update.  

You could test for few a days using the Ext SSID and monitor if range extender's 5GHz network is stable or not .  And also check if router's 5Ghz1 & 5Ghz 2 are stable or not. 

After few days test, you could change RE's SSID back to the same as router and see if there any problem. 

 

May I know how do you want to use the 2nd extender? If you want to add the 2nd extender,when using multiple extenders, we still recommend to set up a different SSID for both REs which is different from router to REs connect to each other and causes a loop.

Thank you for your response.

I'll follow your suggestion, i.e. set up a different network on the RE505X and change it to the router's SSID in a few days to see how things go. I'll report back in a week or so.

I was also wondering whether the new firmware planned for the AX11000 (with OneMesh) would not be a better solution to my problem. Here's hoping that it really does come out soon, I'd love to test it.

As regards the second RE505X, I plan to add it once I get to grips with the first one. Thank you for reminding me about the possible loop, however this should not be a problem, as the two will be installed on opposite ends of my apartment, well out of reach of each other.

Thought I would write earlier, as I think I've stumbled upon a solution to the problem.

In September last year, when a new firmware was released, I set all of the bands on the AX11000 to WPA2/WPA3-Personal, and this indeed worked with all of my devices, including those that do not support WPA3.

However, it would now appear that the RE505X - which presently does not support WPA3 - had a fundamental difficulty with this arrangement, going crazy and not working properly when cloning the router's SSID. As an experiment (and out of desperation), yesterday I switched the router's security settings for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (1) to WPA/WPA2-Personal, version WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, and encryption AES, while leaving a fixed channel width of 40 MHz and channel number 11 for 2.4 GHz and a fixed channel width of 160 MHz and channel number 64 for 5 GHz (1).

I then connected the RE505X in range extender mode, cloning the router's SSID, and, lo and behold, everything connected beautifully and is working flawlessly right until now.

Obviously, this solution is not ideal, as you have to compromise your security, but I see no other option until the RE505X receives WPA3 support, hopefully in the not too distant future.
