Model: TL-WN823N
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

My TL-WN823N V1 adapter used to work, it would connect to WiFi fine, sometimes it would drop out but I could reconnect to it.

I've had this adapter for a few years now and I try plugging it in and my PC and it won't recognize it, it detects it as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)"

I've tried updating the driver but that didn't work, it wouldn't recognize it as a driver, I've tried connecting it to different USB ports, I've tried pressing the WPS button in different ways, uninstalling the device, and putting it back in, putting it in and resetting my PC while it's in there, resetting the PC than connecting it.

I got it working once but it didn't pick up any WiFi signals so after that I tried unplugging it and plugging it back again to hopefully detect a WiFi signal but when I plugged it back in, it went back to the same problem not recognizing it.

It seems like anything I try, my PC won't recognize it.

@Brockalee Hello,

If PC recognizes the adapter as Unknown device, that means the hardware is detected by computer and could be the issue on driver. You could try this chipset driver for TL-WN823N V1:

Here is an FAQ to manually to install driver:

Btw, may I know do you use Windows 10 PC with this adapter? Does the adapter work with the same PC for years?
