Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I've been chasing TP-Link support for months about this, at my wits end.

I bought my Deco M5 purely on the basis that they had the ability to disable the 5Ghz radios. I have a number of smart devices and an internet device that needs this for interferance reasons. But a few months in, and crucially just a few weeks beyond my return period, I realized it was a lie. The Deco does not disable the radio - despite there being a feature in the mobile app to do so. Instead, it just hides the SSID. Radios still broadcast.

TP Link support reps at first kept repeating the same script, "of course you can do this, just open the mobile app" yada yada. But once I provided proof, then nothing. I get pre-canned emails saying they have escalated this....but nothing.

Searching the forums, clearly other Deco models have the same problem. So what gives TP Link? Why lie? Why not give your customers the feature you have been advertising for years?

Confused and frustrated.

@GeoffreyM

Hi, Thank you very much for your feedback.

With a WiFi analyzer, you might see there are 2 SSIDs on each band.

Actually, one of them is the normal SSID, which can be detected and connected by wireless devices or disabled on the Deco APP;

The other is the hidden SSID, which is used to build up the wireless backhaul within the Deco system and cannot be detected by common wireless devices.

Thank you very much and wait for your reply.

This is my point, they cannot be disabled. Your marketing, your support staff, even your app suggests that they can. Making the SSID hidden is not the same as disabling.
