Hello,

 

I bought a TP-Link Archer C50 router and it's connected to a 250 Mbps ethernet port, and I'm only getting up to about 85 Mbps on the 5G LAN.

 

The specifications state the speed and not the bandwidth, which should be reliable enough but apparently they're not:

  • 5 GHz: 867 Mbps (802.11ac)
  • 2.4 GHz: 300 Mbps (802.11n)

 

When I connect my PC to the wired connection I use for my router, I directly get 250 Mbps. I know that this router only has 100 Mbps ethernet connections, but on the 5G it should not be limited to 100 Mbps.

I have already updated it to the latest firmware version and I'm standing right in front of it with the device that's testing the speed.

 

What else should I do? This already feels like a rip-off.

C50 has 4x100 mbps LAN ports and 1x100 mbps WAN port (Internet port).

You're not limited to 100 mbps for the traffic that goes between wireless devices only (in your LAN).

When the traffic goes through a LAN or WAN port (wired connection) it would be limited to 100 mbps - that's a bottleneck you can't avoid.

If you wonder what's the point of having more than 100 mbps over the wireless and up to 100 mbps over the ethernet ports:

1) Greater bandwidth for the traffic that goes between the wireless devices only (in your LAN).

2) The wireless extender feature can give you faster than 100 mbps speed, but again only over the wireless connection in your LAN.
