I have a standard old ADSL modem/router from my ISP in a multi level house. I bought and attached this router (AX50) yesterday and noticed neither range, penetration or speed increase. I made several tests with various network apps to check and compare this product's results with my old EE equip and noticed nothing new. Now I wonder if I made a mistake in purchasing this product and whether I should return it. I was hoping and expecting substantial increase in range, penetration and speed with a Wi-Fi 6 new product especially when compared to a standard router modem several years old. What do you advise?
For multi level houses, you'll have to create mesh network. One Wi-Fi router is only able to cover one floor, for other floors, you'll either need a new AP or Wi-Fi extender.
Also, to experience Wi-Fi 6 speeds, you need to have Wi-Fi 6 capable devices. There isn't much of them available right now, but they will come soon. Flagship phones already come with Wi-Fi 6 support.
And, the most important, if you pay for speed of 50 Mb/s, none of the routers will get you 1 Gb/s. The advertised speed it theoretical maximum you can get via Wi-Fi from the router. So, in order to get 1 Gb/s via Wi-Fi, you'll need to upgrade your internet package to 1 Gb/s, then you would see the difference. Though, again, you'll need Wi-Fi 6 compatible device to get the full speed.
