Hi there,

I'm attempting to improve my home network for extending my fiber connection to another room down the passage. The fiber line goes into my main  AC750 Wireless Dual Band Router (Archer C20). I have moved this router as close to the passage as possible. My fiber connection is only 10Mbits so doesn't push this router at all.

In the room down the passage that I want to use my laptop in only gets 1-2 bars on 2.4GHz band. In terms of a speed test, the bitrate varies from 6-2 Mbits. At full bars, I get the expected 10Mbits.

I have an opportunity to buy a TL-WR845N Wireless Router. I'm not concerned about the degredation of speed between AC and N as I'm only dealing with a 10Mbit fiber connection. There is a deal for the TL-WR845N makes it 50-75% cheaper than a dedicated WiFi extender, so quite attractive for this endevour.

However, I'm wondering if it will work as expected.

As far as I can tell I can run the TL-WR845N in range extender mode, however, down the passage there is no power connection that is closer than the room I'm going to be using. Hence, the TL-WR845N will be placed in the same room that only gets 1-2 bars.

In extender mode, will this achieve the expected 10Mbits if the TL-WR845N is at mid-range from the AC750?

I'm also assuming that the TL-WR845N can be used to extend the AC750?

Thanks.

While it's desirable to place the TL-WR845N half of the distance between AC750 and the room where your computer is, the only way to determine if that will work as desired, is to try it. You can use TL-WR845N's WDS to extend AC750 wireless coverage. The other option that will work for sure is to put an ethernet cable between AC750 and TL-WR845N and use the TL-WR845N as an AP.
