Troubleshooting Slow Internet Speed with Deco Devices
When you find the internet speed from Deco is below expected, please refer to steps below to locate the problem and troubleshoot according to the corresponding suggestions.
Notifications before we run the speed test:
1. Please make sure Deco, Ethernet cables and the testing PC are all 1Gbps (Gigabit) supported, not to mention the broadband connection. For example, Deco E3/E4/W2400 are fast Ethernet ports(10/100m/s).
2. Most of the time, the speed from satellite Deco nodes are less than main Deco, especially when they are not using Ethernet backhaul.
3. If you are using a wireless device to test speed, make sure the wireless device is 5Ghz supported and capable of reaching high speed. Some old laptop's Wireless Network Adapter is not able to reach high speed.(Please Turn off the low power mode if you are testing speed over iPhone)
Methods and Steps to verify speed:
1. Use Ookla Speedtest App or https://www.speedtest.net to measure Internet speed. The speedtest on the Deco APP is only for reference.
2. Verify maximum broadband speed by connecting a Gigabyte PC directly into the ISP Modem first;
3. Verify wired speed into the Main Deco after verifying the ISP Modem's maximum speed;
4. Disconnecting every wireless device if you are trying to measure the maximum wireless speed of Deco units;
5. Always reconnect Wi-Fi on your cellphones/laptops every time you perform a speedtest.
Possible Solutions:
1. Remove QoS settings: Deco APP>>>HomeCare or HomeShield>>>Turn off QoS Completely or remove all priority devices and set the max bandwidth at 1000Mbps or higher.
2. Turn off the UPNP and SIP ALG in the Deco app: Deco APP>More>Advanced>UPNP/SIP ALG;
3. Try a few other speedtest servers because some specific servers cannot reach full speed at wireless.

Hi can I have a picture of your network layout and would there be any switch in the network?
Have you ever changed a new cable to connect the main S4 to the Virgin modem?
By the way, may I know the model number of your Virgin modem?
Thank you very much.

Hi thanks for getting bak to me. I haven't changed any of the cables used since first installation.
I'm not sure what sort of picture you would like but my network layout is the Virgin modem positioned in the centre of the house and connected to the Main Deco in the room nextdoor using a 15m ethernet cable. This unit is then connected with a hort ethernet cabe into a PC. The PC also oly ever gets max speeds of 60MB once it drops from 400+. The 2nd Deco unit is positioned 1 floor above these and the 3rd unit is actually 1 level below the main, in a summer house, about 40 ft away from the Main unit.
My virgin Hub is the 3.0.
Cheers.

Deco M5 x3
Firmware 1.5.7
The Deco app shows a download speed of 700 Mbps. The two Deco have a two and three signal bar strength.
Is a download speed of 120 Mbps normal for a wireless connection?

@TP-Link maybe you have forgot. After setting all the settings you need to restart/reboot the device again, then the data will be assumed.
everything is working fine now.
Thanks!

Hi, Nice to see you again.
I see we have created a ticket #TKID220119518 for your case and ever since the first update, there is no more reply.
If the speed issue still existed, you could update the email directly with more details so that we could provide further assistance.
Thank you very much.

When my laptop is connected to the main Deco M5 device, I get full speed (per my subscription): 200MB download, 5MB upload.
When it is connected to a secondary device, performace goes down to approx 70-85MB.
My Decos are cofigured as Access Point. but same results also in router mode.
The main device is connected to a Gigabit ethernet port to the router.
The other Deco devices are wireless and show abuot 1-2 lines in the signal strength icon.
Network Optimization reports perfect status.
Can I do somthing to improve speed?
Thanks,
--- Moshe

Hi, Welcome to the community.
Have you tested the Ethernet speed from the satellite M5?
Normally the speed from the satellite would be less than the main Deco--Why is my satellite Deco unit not getting the same speed as the main Deco?
And It would help if you could wire to the satellite Deco via cable to the main Deco or main ISP router to use Ethernet backhaul, instead of Wi-Fi backhaul.
General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco
Thank you very much.
Best regards.
