I've just spent two hours trying to set up a USB drive for file sharing on my new AC1200/VR400 modem router, following the TP-Link instructions fully.

Nowhere do these instructions tell me that accessing files on the drive requires the SMB1 protocol, which has been deprecated by Microsoft since 2014 for security reasons.

It's absolutely scandalous that TP-Link has not implemented SMB2, which has been available since 2006.

Why is basic functionality of this unit unavailable because of failure to introduce a change which has been available for nearly 15 years?

And when will SMB2 be implemented?
