Model: Archer AX1500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hi,

I've recently bought Archer AX1500 router and wanted to set it up as Acess Point. I was able to do so but I'm not able to reach the Internet through it.

Here are my main router settings, to which I'm connecting the new Archer AX1500 in AP mode (using ETH cable):

  • IP: 192.168.100.1
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • DHCP server: ON
  • DHCP server addresses range: 192.168.100.5 - 192.168.100.199

After logging in to the router, I've switched it to Access Point mode and Setup WiFi networks (changed SSID and password) and no other settings were changed.
I've connected my new Archer AX1500 using its WLAN port to my main router LAN port (this is how the picture, while switching to AP mode, showed).
This configuration did not work for me - no Internet.

Next, I've configured Archer AX1500 LAN settings:

  • Changed its IP to static: 192.168.100.3
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Default gateway: 192.168.100.1
  • Disabled DHCP

I've tried connecting Archer AX1500 using both WLAN and one of LAN ports to my main router LAN port, the result is the same - no Internet.

The cable I connect both routers with should be fine because I've used it to configure the new Archer AX1500 router.

I can see on my main router that the Archer AX1500 is connected to its LAN port with the IP 192.168.100.3 and it's online.

I have another router functioning as AP (TP-Link TL-WR1043N/ND v2). This router is configured the same as my new Archer AX1500 with the change to the IP address which is 192.168.100.2 and it functions properly (I have access to the Internet, I've been using it for few years now).

Any suggestion why I cannot reach the Internet using my new TP-LINK Archer AX1500 router?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Dawid

@Ivaylo

I've resolved the issue by connecting my old router functioning as AP to the new Archer AX1500 LAN port.
After that, I have access to the Internet on both of them.
Now only the new Archer AX1500 router in AP mode is connected to the main router.

I've also adjusted both Acess Points WiFi settings (channel and width) and turned of the main router WLAN for maximum WiFi network performance.
I can finally enjoy the Internet on both of them.

That was harder than expected to make all of this up and runing.

So if anyone stumples upon same issue, I hope this thread will help them.

@Ivaylo thanks a lot for trying to help me!

@Zohan

This is the topology for AP mode - cable from the main router LAN port to the AX1500 WAN/Internet port (assuming AX1500 is in AP mode).

AX1500 LAN settings:

  • Static IP: 192.168.100.3
  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
  • Default gateway: 192.168.100.1
  • DHCP Off

This configuration should work. Try using another cable between the two routers just to exclude the possibility that cable is the issue.

@Ivaylo

Thanks for the reply.

I tought maybe even though I set the Static IP to 192.168.100.3, it remains as the 192.168.0.254 (default address after changing mode to AP and no other settings).
So this is how I setup my network:
Main router connected to the Internet:
IP: 192.168.0.1
Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP: On

DHCP range: 192.168.0.3 - 192.168.0.253

Old router functioning as AP:
IP: 192.168.0.2
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DHCP: Off
Internet connection: working properly atfer network changes

New Archer AX1500 settings:
IP: 192.168.0.254
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DHCP: Off
Cable connection: WAN port in AX1500, LAN port in my main router.
Internet connection: still not able to reach Internet

I've used diffrent cable to connect both routers.

My observations:

  1. I'm able to reach AX1500 on 192.168.0.254 address only when I'm connected to it via cable. I am not able to do it using it's WiFi WLAN network (weird).
  2. I'm able to reach my main router on 192.168.0.1 when I'm connected via cable to the AX1500 in AP mode (looks like they finally are in the same network).
  3. My main router with address 192.168.0.1 appears on Clients list in AX1500 (is this proper behavior?)
  4. I can't reach AX1500 on 192.168.0.254 when I'm connected to my main router WiFi network.

So still, I'm not able to reach Internet with my AX1500 in AP mode in network configuration I've described above.

Any other ideas what might be the cause of this issue?

Regards,
Dawid

@Zohan

You can modify the IP address of AX1500 after you have set it up in AP mode.

Your observations:

"I'm able to reach AX1500 on 192.268.0.254 address only when I'm connected to it via cable. I am not able to do it using it's WiFi WLAN network (weird)."

Weird indeed.

"I'm able to reach my main router on 192.168.0.1 when I'm connected via cable to the AX1500 in AP mode (looks like they finally are in the same network)."

That's normal.

"My main router with address 192.168.0.1 appears on Clients list in AX1500 (is this proper behavior?)"

I think it should be vice versa.

"I can't reach AX1500 on 192.168.0.254 when I'm connected to my main router WiFi network."

You should be able to.

What's your main router ?

Compare your wireless and wired IP addresses when you are connected to the main or AX1500 router - see if they are in the DHCP range of the main router DHCP server.

Can you post your AX1500 wireless settings and LAN/DHCP settings ? - just cover/remove your password and SSID from the screenshot.

@Ivaylo

My main router is : Huawei HG8247K (it's my Internet provider's modem/router, I'm reaching Internet via optical fiber with it).

When I'm connected to AX1500 via cable, my IP address is in DHCP range.
When I'm connected via WiFi to AX1500, my IP address is out of DHCP range (looks like I don't get proper IP from the AX1500 which should be obtained from my main router where DHCP is enabled).

Screenshots of my AX1500 settings which you asked for:

My main router can see the AX1500 on LAN2 port no problem:

@Zohan

Change your wireless settings to these and try again (your other settings are perfectly fine):

@Ivaylo

I wasn't able to connect to AX1500 both using WiFi or cable but the router seem to be working (lights were on).
I've performed reset to default settings, configured it as AP once again with WiFi names etc.
I've only changed it's static IP address to 192.168.0.3 instead of 192.168.0.254 so I can remember it for the future access.

I've changed the WiFi settings to which you've showed.

I had to set mu IP to static in DHCP range and this way I can connect to the AX1500 via WiFi on 192.168.0.3 and my main router.

Unfortunately I still don't have access to the Internet from AX1500.

Here is the screenshot you've asked for:

@Ivaylo

  1. Is there other way to setup this router as AP? Maybe without switching to Access Point mode?
  2. Should I update the firmware if there are any updates?
  3. Maybe my TP-LINK Archer AX1500 is a faulty unit?

In this case you should adjust your main router DHCP range to start from 192.168.0.4... If you haven't yet, then put the latest FW on the device and try again.

There is another scenario for configuring the device in AP mode. In that case the device is still in router mode, but connected with the LAN port and DHCP off.

You can try that as well. Just wondering why the integrated AP mode doesn't work as expected...

What are your computer LAN / WLAN settings when connected to AX1500 (IP, DNS, GW) ?
