TL-WR845N - Frequent PPPoE Connection Drops on WiFi
TL-WR845N - Frequent PPPoE Connection Drops on WiFi
I recently bought a TP-Link TL-WR845N from Amazon India and it is being used as a Router in PPPoE Mode. The Internet disconnects on WiFi every 1-2 hours and the router needs to be restarted in order to revive the connection. The WiFi signal is also not stable as sometimes the range goes all of a sudden. Also, sometimes the internet disconnects without loosing the signal and when it does, even the Router login page cannot be accessed. The Router is UN variant and is currently running the latest firmware version. I have tried changing the Wi-Fi channels and the width to 20mhz, but still the issue persists. There is no problem with the ISP since I have tried connecting it to my Archer A6 and it works perfectly. I could see that multiple users of TL-WR845N are facing the exact same issue of Wi-Fi connecting dropping and frequent internet disconnection. Please give me a solution ASAP.

Hello, can we have the firmware version of the router? You can find it on the router Status page, please show us the screenshot.
Who is your ISP? When the internet drops on the router, is there still a WAN IP address on the Status page? Ensure the cable between the ISP modem and the router is good.
Try to reset the router to factory defaults by referring to this guide, reconfigure it from scratch, then check again if the connection is stable. If the issue still happens, please send us the whole system log on the router, includes that before and after the router disconnects, but don't reboot the router, which will clear the log, you can login to the router web GUI to click disconnect then connect to see if the connection will restore.

Hi Kevin
Firmware Version:0.9.1 3.17 v0001.0 Build 201214 Rel.67500n
Hardware Version:TL-WR845N v4 00000004
Wnet is my ISP provider. Yes, the WAN IP is persistent even when the wifi drops (takes atleast 4-5 attemps to connect, but able to see the status page on router home page))
Also, as mentioned earlier, the router home page also takes atleast 4-5 atttempts to connect and open... navigating and going to Network-WAN is out of question.. have to restart the router and connection is restored for another ~2 hrs.
On the ISP home page, I can see that connection is still established as it reflects whether is logged in on not. So connection to ISP is established by router durnig this time

@Vasudev my wr845n v4 had the same problem.
looks like the firmware is problematic, the firmware update does not fix, but actually worsens the wireless quality, drops more often than the first firmware version.
Likewise with wr840n v6, when updating the firmware to the latest version, the same problem appears as wr845n, wireless is not stable. when downgrade to the first firmware version wireless can be normal again.
one more wr841hp v5 also experienced the same thing, wireless is not stable.
I'm sure it's a firmware problem, because the wr840n case can be normal when downgrading to the first firmware.
